We moved to this place last December and paying 600 New Zealand dollars per week and this is a fixed term tenancy for 12 months.
Yesterday I’ve got a message from my property manager saying that they gonna increase the rent from another 30 dollars per week, so it will be 630 per week from August.
This is really annoying and too much for us. So we decided to find another place for a less price. It’s hard.... but we will get there somehow.

I wish you the best of luck in finding a more affordable place to live. It's such a shame that something that is considered a basic human need (shelter) can be so expensive to obtain. Too bad our governments can't pass laws that keep housing more affordable or something.

@amandajay You have to pay by the week? Is that standard in your country?

Since its a fixed term tenancy for 12 months, can they even raise the rent? And if you find another place, won't you get charged for leaving early?

Wow, I guess NZ dollars are a lot less than USD, but still, that sounds like a CRAZY price increase. If you are on a fixed term, doesn't that mean they can't increase your rent during that time? That's what it is here.

@amandajay - Oh, so as SOON as they could legally do it, they pounced. What jerks! You're better off somewhere else, I agree.

yes its less than USD, but still it's a lot comparing to the earnings, so 30 means a lot for a week. it's annoying when they do these things suddenly. they have put a sentence on the agreement saying that they can increase after 6 month according to the market value, but that's unfair.
