They're baaaaack!

June 15, 2019 7:43pm CST
My boys have spent the last week at Boy Scout camp. They finally made it home today. I know it is good for them, but I'm happy to have my boys back. Of course, I'll probably be ready to send them to camp again by Monday!

I miss camping outdoor. I have been in the scouting movement for more than 20 years. I have attended several local camping and jamboree and one national jamboree in the major island in our country Philippines.

@020796elc We're doing it too here as layman's scout supporters. We're also registered in the BSP council.

Actually, I was a Girl Scout troop leader for 8 years. My baby daughter graduated high school in May. I was a Cub Scout den leader for 6 years. My baby boy crossed over into Boy Scouts in March. Not being a scout leader is quite an adjustment. We still go camping, hiking, etc.. as a family though.

It is always a great feeling to have your boys at home although they may drive you mad sometimes .

Camping is one of the best place for young individuals to learn about how to be independent and I experience that when I was young too.I love it.

You know they learn about the great outdoors and camping and other life skills but when they are gone there is a void in your heart and life because you are used to a noisy house and now you have a quiet house so you miss them deeply so I know that this why you are glad to have them back.

I remember my youngest going camping for the first time. It was a bit strange to not have him there. I was so used to him being around. He enjoyed his camp, I am glad he went, but I did miss him. He said he missed me! His second camp happened on his 11th birthday so that was really special for him - but strange for me. I distracted myself with a games night! Now he's just turned 14, he doesn't really enjoy camping so much. I think he's only been to the indoor ones in the past year or two. He'd go to all of them before that. It's a shame but if he doesn't enjoy it any more, I won't make him go. Of course, it also saves me money when he doesn't go to camp! I am sure you missed yours a lot. As much as we could all do with a break from our children at times, it does seem like you've forgotten something when they're not around.

Our children learn a lot in a camp, so it is good for them, but as parents we can't really avoid to be worried to them and miss them.
