Playroom Outside

A close friend called and was telling me about her daughter buying a new house. She (her daughter) has three children. They each have their own playroom. I told her, since we are close, and I tell her how I feel, that our playroom growing up was called outside. Then I saw this photo online and had to share. Remember the tire swings we played on in the yard, anyone? I also remember my parents telling us kids to "go play outside". Back in the day it was safe and we could go play outside. Things have really changed. None of us are safe outside our homes like we used to be. It is a shame we all have to watch our every move, not knowing what the next person we meet might do. It is just a different world these days. Nothing stays the same. Do you agree?

I think kids need to play outside and if need be the yard can be fenced but my grandkids play outside, it is healthier.

@CarolDM I tried to get my grand kids to play tether ball but they just looked at it and asked me, "What's that Anthony?" and I couldn't get them to play in the kid's pool either. They are stuck on those dumb phones. However, I did manage to get one of my grand children to play The Sims on my computer. He loved that game. Back when he was just a kid.

@lookatdesktop I can believe that! They are all missing out these days. The phones are glued to most of them. And it is up to the parents to change some of this. Glad you enjoyed playing the game with your grandchild.

Playing outside is healthy but playing outside and being creative without a whole lot of toys is what I remember. I'd ride my bike or roller skate or play with my friends; and there wasn't a bit of technology present!

I remember having a tire swing. I spent most of my childhood outside. I still love being in the woods. I would take my son to the woods and play with him when he was little. I remember him telling me that one of the kids made fun of him because he liked to run around in the woods and look for treasure. Kids do not have any imagination anymore. I am so glad, I had that special time with my son and his friends. Because it all seems to be lost on the kids today. Very sad.

@CarolDM It is sad, but I do no blame the kids, it's the parents fault. The technology was there when my son was young. I just made him go outside. Actually, I didn't have to make him, he liked it. He still likes the outdoors as long as it's not too hot.

Oh good. Great memories for you too. I love nature as you know. They have no chance for imagination with all the technology.

Yes, I agree with you. But here, in Serbia, children still have a carefree childhood in the village.

@CarolDM And here parents are more and more scared, because various negative things started to happen, but Serbia is still a country where children in the villages are safer.

Good old days, that time there was no seteelite channels and internet to play inside. Video games were also rare. Now it's 21st Century.

I loved to play outside when I stayed at my grandparents house. I grew up in an apartment in a large city, it was not safe to play outside unfortunately.

I still like to play outside. I go out and mow the grass or I go and chase away the grackles.

I remember I used to play baseball outside with friends when I was younger and I'm 23 so, it was just a moment ago. I haven't seen anything like that again. Some children are quite busy with their smartphones and the streets are not safe anymore! Such a shame.

Even as young as you are, you can see the world changing. Glad you had good memories. The phones need to be cut back and it is up to the parents.
