Sounds like old fashioned entertainment. Old TV variety shows often had men dressing as women. I wouldn't make a trip to town for it, but might check it out If I was near by.

From what I understand, this was started as an event to show support for the LBGTQ community during PRIDE month (June). Community leaders saw it as an opportunity to allow a Drag Queen/King to read children's books to children. The events sometimes involved crafts and/or singing and the events were open to the entire family. In concept it seems pretty harmless but I read where many community didn't agree with what the community leaders were trying to do and protested to the point that several readings were cancelled. On the other side of the fence, families felt this was an opportunity to allow their children to see life outside their small towns. I can certainly see their point. To be honest with you, I don't know if I'd allow my children to attend. Maybe once they reach a certain age but by then they probably wouldn't be into the whole book reading thing at the library. If my kids went, it certainly wouldn't be alone. It's not that I don't trust the Queen/King, it that I would want to monitor the situation and if the kids were being exposed to more than just a book reading I'd have the opportunity to remove them immediately.

@db20747 - I heard about it but didn't think too much about it until I read your post. Then I did a browser search on it and found out much more. Virginia isn't the only state that has mixed reviews. Just type it into your favorite search engine and you'll see that there's a lot of talk going on.

Some people are so quick to judge and get their knickers in a twist. I think I would be open minded enough to attend.
