French toast using actual toast

I really wanted some French toast, but because my bread is fresh, I wasn't in the mood for having soggy bread. They say you can dry it out on the counter or in the oven, but I decided to use the toaster. I'm glad I did. The toaster was set on a low setting that barely browns the bread. I figured that would be perfect for dunking in the egg-milk mixture. It was! The bread held together far better than it normally does before and after cooking. It made eating it more of a pleasure. And the leftover egg milk mixture I used to make scrambled eggs. All in all, it turned out to be a tasty feast! And a method I will use again.

That's a great idea about toasting it. Using the egg/milk mixture for scrambled eggs is genius too!

I always do that when there is too much left over to throw away. I like eggs with my breakfast anyway.

I'm going to try using French vanilla creamer with the eggs the next time.

Thanks for the tip. I love French toast. My mother made it with real French bread with a thick crust. It was delicious and different.

I've done that, too, but we just don't eat bread often enough to buy any just-for-French-toast.

@jerzgirl I´m a bread eater. In fact, until the last generation when cereals came from the US, everyone ate bread here.

I think the key is to make sure it's lightly toasted.

I got some serious burns one time making it, so I have to be in the mood to deal with it and have tried to simplify it as much as possible over the years. I think this is my final tweak.

It was my first attempt, but if I hadn't already known how the toast came out, I might have waited.
