Grandchildren are a Privelege

...at least they should be seen that way. I certainly feel very blessed and priveleged to have mine in my life. It has taken some work on our part but I believe we can safely say that we have earned our place as grandparents. We might not get to see them often but I do know that our efforts are appreciated. Even though they are cheeky, sometimes hiding from us when we call, I love that we can see them. I love that we get to share in special moments when their mummy and daddy take photos. I may have only given birth to two sons but our girls are my 'bonus pack'. I love my step-daughters and granddaughters dearly. There are people we know, in various situations, who don't seem to want to acknowledge their grandchildren (or other family) or get annoyed at their presence. It's sad, I think. I couldn't love my grandchildren any more if they were my own flesh and blood. We only get to see them once a year but we do talk with them and write to them. We would spend every day with them if we had the chance. Perhaps I should thank some of the people who didn't bother with their (our) grandchildren. They have helped to pave the way for us to be more involved and appreciated! We are very lucky to have lots of special people in our lives. A few good friends, sons, daughters, granddaughters, nieces, nephews... Do you have grandchildren? Who are the special people in your lives?

That's great you are able to see your grandchildren once in a while and have grandchildren you can boast about. Yes, I have six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. I heard my granddaughter is supposed to be coming home this summer from Texas, so I hope I will see my great-granddaughters this year. It's been two years since I saw them last. I saw my youngest granddaughter a few days ago. She turned 8 months yesterday.

I hope you do get to see your granddaughter and your great-granddaughters. We see our granddaughters only once a year, which isn't a lot when they're still so little! We haven't seen our eldest daughter for 2 years. I think it was her wedding that we last saw her as she didn't come up with the others when they visited last year. We will see them all in October as they are going to be my bridesmaids.

I have four grandchildren ranging in age from 21 to just 7. Yes, of course they are special - as are my son and daughters. I feel proud whenever I think of them. All my children have done well for themselves and are good parents. I see my grandchildren growing into beautiful people "Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one's youth." (Psalm 127)

That's lovely. The age gap between my mum's grandchildren is similar to yours (as you might know). They range from 6 to 26. Mine are much closer - they are 4, 2, and on the way :) I expect there will be more eventually so we could end up with a big gap between eldest and youngest.

I am an aunt but not yet a grand-aunt. I'm sure I will be in the future.

I think I am lucky :) I would, of course, prefer if they lived nearer so that I could see them more often.

You are truly blessed to have good friends and family in your lives. No, I don't have grandchildren or a lot of family in my life. I have some cousins of my husband's that we see occasionally.

I have a lot of cousins, as does my partner, all with their own children, grandchildren, even one with great grandchildren. We don't see much of them, though. I think that's partly why I try to hard with keeping our closest family close. My youngest has some cousins on his father's side who he doesn't see (not for want of trying) but we spend time with others. My partner has a niece and nephew who are similar ages to my two boys. They get on very well, just as cousins should.

I shared a very special bond with my grandparents and I am glad that my daughters do the same with their grandparents. It's such a special bond. I still miss my grandparents and feel that they are blessing me from heaven.

That is lovely. I didn't really know my grandparents well. I was young when they passed away but I do remember some things about them. I am glad that I'm young enough to enjoy my grandchildren :)

Your daughters are the special people in your life, then. Our children are age 25, 22, 19, and 14. The 25 year old is the only one with children. Currently 2 girls with another on the way :) I know the 19 year old wants to be a father in the future so I'm sure I have more grandchildren to look forward to :)

Are grandchildren likely to be in your future? They are certainly a blessing.
