Will You Leave Your Career For Your Children?

My mom keeps on telling this to me when I was young, that she surrender her career just to make sure that we'll grow well. She isn't satisfied or feels safe when she is going to leave us on maids because when I was young she hired 2 maids to take care of me but she said that she can't focus a lot while working because she keeps on calling to check if I'm good or not. So one day she decided to submit her resignation to become a full-time mom.

Your father probably had sufficient earnings to allow your mom to stay at home to take care of you and your siblings. Unlike today when both parents sometimes have to work to make enough for the family upkeep..

My father decided to change his Job since my mom wants to take care of my older brother and me. I agree with you! Nowadays especially if you're going to stay here in our country, it isn't enough for only 1 who work

Well I grew up with a parent that both works luckily they were able to leave us at our grandparents house when they are at work and we grew safe and sound with them. I also had the chance when we were already big enough that we were left with the maid to watch over us back then. That way financially the family survive and when we were old enough we took shifts in doing household chores to make the house clean.

@tech40 My mom did pretty well in her job as a mother to us since after work she would prepare dinner and do her duties as a mom. It was hard work still since her job as a public school teacher was also back breaking and she brings some of the work at home at times to lessen her job at work. It was tough too having that situation but she managed to let us finish our studies and was able to manage our own lives.

I quit working last May 2012 for my kids. Though I miss working and going out to work, I know that the times I spent with my kids cannot be equaled to any amount so it is fine by me.

Yes, of course. I did not have a career then but stayed at home as a housewife taking care of my young family while doing a lot of learning about the German language, tradition and customs. It was worth it and I did not miss anything bringing up my only child.

@tech40 That's the true mother. My mother is like that. She keeps on worrying every time I am away from home for I am the youngest of 6 in our family.

I'm so glad that mothers are willing to sacrifice their career for their family, that's a hard decision but it's better to do, on that way just to make sure that your baby will grow good.

I did not have a career when I had my children. I have never understood people who have children only to have someone else raise them. Unfortunately, it isn't always possible for a parent to be a full-time parent. It's often necessary for both parents to work all hours just to make ends meet. It's a shame because I absolutely believe that children are (usually) better off being cared for by a parent at least the majority of the time. If I were to have my children now, I almost certainly would give up my career or, at the very least, change my hours or work more from home so that I could fit my work around them. I had been working part-time/around my youngest child but had to take a full-time job to pay bills. My youngest child is 14 so can look after himself but I would still rather be there for him after school and during school holidays. It's not so bad in school time but it's not nice feeling that he's left at home on his own for so long in the holidays as there are only limited things he can do on his own.
