Children, the Elderly and Pets in Hot Cars

It's that time of year when we should address leaving children, the elderly and pets in the car during the hot weather.
First of all, never ever leave a baby or small child in a car alone for even a few minutes if you are not right by your vehicle. If I ever see a baby or small child alone in a car with no one around, it's time to call 911. The baby or child could die of heat stroke and is also an easy victim for a child snatcher.
The same applies for a pet. If it's a hot, sunny day, don't leave your pet in the car, even with the windows rolled down a little.
The greenhouse effect on a sunny day can rapidly raise temperatures to fatal heights in a short period of time -- even with the windows rolled down slightly.
Don't believe me? We've had plenty of hot weather so far this year. It's been close to 90 for several days. Take your car out of the garage (it will be a little cool from being out of the sun); and sit in the driveway with the windows cracked for about 10 minutes. Don't cheat and run the A/C. How did it feel?
Please use common sense and keep the children, elderly and pets safe.

I cringe this time of year when they start talking about this on the news. It just makes me sad.

It is really unsafe to leave a child, elderly or pet unattended in car even if it is for few minutes. Accidents and mishaps take no time. Better safe than sorry.

It is sad that people need to be reminded of this every year.

I love you title. It makes me want to buy a Porsche (before 2717), and take my 96-year-old Auntie, young kid friends, and anyone else for a "bad-assed" drive on highway 101 to Santa Barbara. But I agree that we have to keep everyone safe. I leave NOBODY in my car when I go to buy coconut milk at the Dollar Tree.

It's tragic stories like yours that made me post this discussion.

If people have to be reminded that children, the elderly, and small animals shouldn't be left out in the car than well.. They shouldn't be transporting these individuals.

Yes...this is a good message to share about....so important. It's scary that some people do that.
