Who was the soldier and what of his bride?

United States

A Daguerreotype photo was found on the body of a union soldier that died in 2nd corps hospital. He died in 1864 or 1865. The soldier's exact name is unknown, but it was supposed that he served with the 4th New York Artillery. It's been over a century since the Civil War, but with the invention of ancestry sites, it's not unlikely that we may one day find out who the woman is and who the man was. While it was found on a Union Soldier, it doesn't necessarily mean that it belonged to that soldier. It could have belonged to a buddy of his, or it could have belonged to a confederate soldier. I'm going to link to the reddit page about this, scroll down the comments on reddit and you will find another link about a different soldier with a picture and how they were able to identify the family using newspapers.

They could try to identify the body now, with the DNA test I think they could arrive to know who he was.

The body may just be fragments of bone. I believe they have the technology, but I don't think anyone is really interested in digging the body up, that is if they even know where is was buried.

That is very interesting since we have so many ways to find out things these days. I know that I was able to find the ship my parents sailed on from Europe to NYC Harbor in 1951 and even saw their names on the passenger list.

The person who wrote about the soldier was hoping the soldier and the person in the photo would be identified. There are a lot of curious people on reddit, I'm sure one day someone will figure it out. Yes, I love being able to discover things like that. Passenger lists, land deeds, wills and testaments etc.

Yes, I am sure that who they were will be discovered one day. Someone somewhere has a photo of their great great grandmother or great great great aunt and can say "Hey! That's her!

@JustBhem We hope. There's a chance that that photo was the only one that survived.
