Pumpkin's Positive Post: A Lovely, Long Weekend

Good morning (or afternoon/evening, depending on where you are in the world). I hope that you are all well. While there have been a couple of less-than-positive things going on with me lately, I am not focusing on them. I am, instead, appreciating everything that is good. Over the weekend, we did a few things. First of all, Friday was Midi's last day at his first placement. He had a few cards to thank him for his time there. He had enjoyed it, and the school enjoyed having him there. I am very proud of his achievements. Now, he needs to look for a place to live before he returns to university. On Saturday, my youngest son (Mini) had rehearsals; eldest son (Midi) went to his drama group, and he spent some time with his dad and other family. While they were doing their thing, I spent some time getting some work done. After that, I went out to meet a friend for a drink. I hadn't seen her for a while so it was nice to catch up. We chatted about what had been going on in our lives since we last saw each other. I had arrived at our meeting place (a pub local to my friend) an hour early because of the buses so I had a drink before she got there. We then had a drink together before we came back to mine. Mini and my partner (D) were there. My friend stayed with us for dinner - we had Chinese food. She then went home and the rest of us went to bed as it was getting late. On Sunday, we came into the city. I had to drop Mini off for final rehearsals, getting ready for a show later in the day. Due to not having very good public transport on a Sunday between here and there, D came with me and we decided to hang around in the city rather than go home to come back again. There is a pub that we had passed previously, which D said he thought he would like. We decided to go in there. Then I got hungry so went to go elsewhere but the place we went does not serve food on a Sunday. We stayed for a while, though, as it was nice there. It was a lovely day and we were able to sit outside. We were also enjoying the good music. After a while, I asked D if we could go elsewhere to eat but he didn't want to leave where we were! Instead, we waited there for Midi to come and meet us. Then we all had a drink together before returning to the pub we had been in earlier. They had stopped serving food an hour beforehand so we ended up getting food from Subway. Once we had got food, we wandered up to the Cathedral ruins in the city. That's where Mini's group were doing their show. It was their first outdoor performance. I was proud of Mini for his involvement in that. I also had a really nice time, as did D, just enjoying the day, the sun, some drinks, and some chatting. On Monday, I had a day off work. The reason that I had the day off was a meeting at Mini's school. I won't go into that but I will say that I was glad to have D with me for it. He was brilliant and, as always, very supportive. I am proud of him for that. After the meeting, D went off to do some things he needed to do. Midi was at home as he's now finished for the summer. He is going on holiday with his dad at the end of this week but I've got him until then. As it was just me and Midi (Mini was at school as he still has a few weeks left before he finishes for summer), we decided to play a game and go for a walk. I was quite pleased with myself as I won the game we chose! The game was Risk. It was an English Heritage version - the one I bought months ago and hadn't yet got round to playing. I have always enjoyed playing Risk but never been very good at it so I was particularly pleased to have won! After that, we went for a wander along the canal. We didn't go very far but it was quite nice to wander and chat in the continual lovely sunshine. We had some dinner when Mini got home from school. After dinner, I went up to my last day of archery course. Along with all of the other beginners, I passed the course and received a certificate. I am definitely going to join as a member - just waiting for some further information about that. I have enjoyed archery very much. I shot some good arrows and some less good ones! Again, the weather stayed really nice so that was a bonus. When I came back home, we had some shopping delivered, and I played another game with Midi - that game is one called Colour Brain, which I had bought after playing it at a board game cafe. Mini didn't want to play so he read one of the books he'd had for his birthday - I think it was 'Johnny and the Bomb'. It was definitely one of Terry Pratchett's Johnny Maxwell Trilogy. I was also offered a job interview. I had to turn it down because there is no way I would have been able to get there. It was a confidence boost, though. Another confidence boost has come from checking regularly on my Vocal Media profile. There is always some fluctuation but it's usually quite low. Over the past few days, my views have been increasing dramatically. Instead of the usual up and down 10% or so, I've had increases of 80 to 90%. Today, it's an increase of 91% compared to the last 30 days. I think, given all of the above, I can be proud of myself again! I'm also proud of our daughters and granddaughters. Eldest daughter, C, is a really good mum and raising two (soon to be three) little girls of her own. Youngest, K, could do better in some areas without certain negative influences but she has overcome a lot of health issues, and she has continued with her education despite various setbacks. Our eldest granddaughter (Baby1) had her first sports day last week, which she seemed to enjoy. She even came 3rd in one of the races. In another event, she fell over but got herself up and carried on without a fuss. Baby2 is just a cheeky little monkey but she is getting more confident and starting to talk a bit more. During the last call to the girls, Baby1 didn't talk to us but she ran up to the screen, ran back, wiggled her bottom at us, and ran into another room! Baby3 is due in about 4 weeks. She seems quite wriggly as C shares videos of her belly moving. As you may be able to tell, I am feeling very proud of all of us at the moment. Of course, there are things that aren't perfect, things that are causing some stress, but I have no control over them. Everything over which I have any influence is going well. How has your weekend been? Anything new? Any really enjoyable 'ordinary' days?

Is your 'nothing new' a good thing? Like I said to Linda, sometimes it's nice that things stay the same if you're happy about it.

@just4him that must be a frustrating wait. I'm waiting on confirmation of acceptance for my last two articles for a client. It's been to my advantage as it's meant I had a longer deadline for the next one's but it also means it'll be longer before I can get paid for them! This particular client is usually quite good. I'm also waiting for my son to get some illustrations done for a story so I can post it on my blog. I wish you all the best with your book.

@pumpkinjam It is and isn't. I'm waiting on my publisher and haven't heard from her in two months, though I did send her an e-mail and she replied that she's working on my book. I hope I hear soon. So, there's nothing new here.

Yes, it always seems that everything happens all at once. People keep telling me to have a break/rest but I'm not quite sure I know how to do that. Every time I get a chance to truly relax - nowhere to go, nothing to do - I get restless! Nothing new? Is that a good thing? Sometimes plodding along at a sensible pace is what makes us happy!

@pumpkinjam No, things could be a little more interesting here. Hope your negatives turn into positives soon.

We did a bunch of running around today for the pet shelter . I like picking stuff up for them and I get paid for it. Plus they give me some cat food.

That seems like a good exchange. As long as the cat food is for the cat, not for you, of course! :D
