That's what I'd be callin' Ms. Sweet Girl, the appendix mare (half Thoroughbred, half Quarter Horse) I rescued 14 yrs 'go. She's 15.3 1/2 hands 'f let's get 'er done. Well, she used to be prior to my illness. We're workin' to gettin' that relationship back. This ol' gal'll stop'n a dime. Seriously, don't ask 'er 'nless yer ready coz she'll plant that backend'n slide fer a good 40ft. If'n ya aint prepared, yer comin' off. My lil herd 's shrank considerably the past couple years fer various reasons, none 'f which've been good. 'tis what's made my heart so heavy, my need to disconnect. I've great plans 'fore summers end fer 's to be one 'gain. Wish me luck'n gettin' a leg back'p'n the saddle. *'tis diff'cult to get decent pics 'f the horses 's they're most oft right next to me 'nless they'd be eatin', lol.

@velvet53 uhm, the doc's told me years 'go when i'd my wreck not to e'er step foot'n a saddle 'gain. i 'bided their rules fer a couple years 'n then said to heck with 't. the doc's 've nary a clue 's to my vertigo 'nor other symptoms 'f cipro toxicity, the damage such caused. e'en though the f.d.a. now's some 'f my symptoms listed's "black box warnings", they still refuse to believe such caused my maladies. i've gotten this far'n my health unaided by an docs.

@crazyhorseladycx Gotta start somewhere, right? I know the feeling - well, not with riding horses but with figure skating. I have my old skates in the closet - but I know my feet have widened since training times - I probably couldn't even fit in them now. If I got back on the ice, my mind would surely know what to do, but my body probably wouldn't cooperate. And falling these days would be a whole 'nother story . . . well, falling wouldn't be the problem - it's getting up . But to get back on that ice - oh what a feeling that would be - and I am sure you must feel that same filled-heart and freedom when you're riding ! Doncha just love people who are so not encouraging ? Those are the kind of folks who laugh at those America's Funniest Videos where people have those crazy accidents . . . injuries are not funny when you're the one who got hurt . Drawing horses is a great exercise in gesture drawing - you gotta work quick! It's literally like capturing ballet dancers as they move . . . all that beauty and strength in one!

@much2say yes ma'am, sometimes ya jest gotta do 'n say devil beware! i feel fer ya not bein' able to do yer passion. i hear ya'n thingies not fittin' any longer. not so certain my 14" saddle 'tis gonna be comfy 's i've done a bit 'f spreadin' with ol' age, lol. don't reckon 't matters, 's there'd be 5 other saddles'n the tack room that're bigger - jest not the same. yes ma'am, freedom pure 'n simple. one 'f my favorite past times 'twas to ride bareback 'n jest layin' back'n lettin' the horse go 'long where they wished. not possible any longer now my lands're gone 'n most all 've fenced off e'erythin'. prolly fer the best 's i don't bounce, i thud :) yes ma'am. she's a weird'un, that's fer certain. 've ne'er figured why she dislikes me so? can't 'magine wishin' someone harm'n then wishin' to be there to see/record 't. sick individuals... i do make a mean stick figure pony

me, too! i was out'n my tack room today, seein' what might need tendin'. i 'twas most saddened i cannot e'en pick'p my saddle off the rack??? might need to go with the english saddle 's such 'tis lightweight. i've a neighbor'n the highway who's been waitin' anxiously fer me to climb back'p. she says she wishes to be there so's she can video tape me gettin' tossed to the ground like a rag doll. yup, that'd be what she said, so's she could post such to youtube'n all those other places. not to call 911 if'n i got hurt. she'd be a real winner, no? thanks much fer the love 'n luck! y'all'll prolly hear me whoopin' 'n hollerin' when such occurs :) yes ma'am, she's a purty thing. still spooky 'fter all the fireworks, 's mr. rocky'd 'lso be. gigglin' o'er yer tryin' to draw 'em, can't e'en imagine such, lol. perhaps from photos, but not'n real-time. i dunno why i'd be sayin' that. most 2yr olds can draw a better stick figure'n i, lol. big hugs ~

Riding in the water
She's a big girl! Very nice colour and very nice and shiny. Hope you get to ride her again soon. I'd need something to climb on I think, but I usually always use something to climb on if I can. It's supposed to be better for the horse, the rider and the saddle. Had planned to ride in the river this weekend, but as I came there it was high tide so I ended doing the wading on the road. Can't get the picture rotated the right way on this computer ... But all that water is supposed to be the road. The river is behind us

@crazyhorseladycx We have footstools all over the place in the stables. Small girls and big horses, but also for quite normal women with small horses :-) I got to get a new girth for one of the boys, that should make getting up without something climb on easier. He's so round, the saddle slips. Doesn't help that people keep feeding him too much for breakfast "cause he looks so hungry!". Yes, he's a Norwegian fjord! He'd look hungry in the middle of pasture! There's roads going just by the river, there's a nature preservation area right in the river delta next to us. Great for wading and shorter walks, also great for wondering "where's the road today?" And everything changes in the winter 'cause the ice in the river takes part of the area out in the fjord. Hope you get back in the saddle, I'm pretty sure those boys need something to do to keep their minds busy. Mine do get a bit stressed when they haven't done anything for a couple of days. The pony is then extremely eager to trot, the other one plans mischief.

yes ma'am, she's purty tall. most oft i sit a western saddle, 'tis nearly's old 's i, lol. my preference'd be bareback, the hubs ferbids 't. lil does he know that prior to illness, i did jest that when he 'twas not home. there aint many places 'round here to climb on/off so's such's not used oft. i do've my eye'n an ol' railroad crosstie layin' out'n the pasture ('nother 'f the hubs, "i'm gonna use that") that'd put me a tad closer to a stirrup. oh dear, that'd be the road??? don't blame ya fer not wishin' to chance those high waters. 'tis funny coz the horses here 're water shy. prolly coz there aint no rivers'n such to be crossed. i'd a few really nice trail horses back'n the day who took to 'em without hesitation - those were the 1st to be sold sadly. i wish i'd still my ol' palomino mare, anybody could ride 'er with ease. this'un 'tis very sensitive 'n i've yet the confidence i'll not send 'er mixed signals with my body language. i'll get there, 'tis my remainin' goal, to ride 'gain. if'n such works out well, i'll get the other mare re-started, too. then get to task'n those raunchy boys.

@Torunn i could set 'p the same here, but dunno what i'd do if'n i needed to get off 'way from the house? need to get this figured'n my fear 'f balance issues worked out'n here soon. dislike this feelin'. been workin' her from the ground fer 'bout 5 months 's we've gone through all from the basics to she'll go 'round cones'n such with jest a point 'r nod, stops'n cue 'n backs through 'em. if i'd still my arena, 't'd not be so dauntin'? could start out there. mr. rocky 'tis currently livin''n such, so'd not be possible. no more open fields to work her'n either. i curse all this 'progress' 'n all the folks who've moved out here. such sounds to ne'er be borin', lol. reminds me a bit 'f back'n the hills. dependin' 'n rains/snows 's to how many waterfalls 'n natural springs ya stumbled 'pon, lol. i'd troubles with my horses when i'd still my pasture. part 'twas near the road 'n a few folks were prone to stoppin', givin' 'em treats. 'pparently folks can't read, coz i'd signs posted 'gainst such. the lil rabicano paint mare'd eat 'til she 'xploded if'n 'llowed. i'm figurin' gettin' this girl out'n the open'll prolly be quite the 'xperience, since 'tis been so long. reckon i ought'a get a life insurance policy jest'n case...

@crazyhorseladycx She is eating fine. Right now seems to feel great too. I still catch her running and playing. She is even still the herd boss. She has a lot of racing paint (thoroughbred) on her top side. So she was never an overly heavy built mare anyways. That makes it show even more now. If she starts hurting I will call the vet. But like I had one vet ask a humane agent one time, Have you ever seen a fat 100 year old person? He then tried to explain that the body stops processing all of the needed nutrients right for staying fatter.

@wolfgirl569 they can be eatin' fine, but that don't mean much. 's i stated, this mare'd be'n appendix - half thoroughbred 'n half quarter horse (racin' quarter horse). if'n yer horse aint able to process such, ya need to supplement, jest 's with elderly folks.

thanks, hon. i've 2 left that used to be ridin' horses, 2 i ne'er made 't that far due to illness fer 8yrs. this mare 'tis 20 'n very 'n tune with 'er rider. i reckon that'd be why i've yet to climb 'board 's my confidence 'tis shaky 'n she'll sense that. been workin''n myself, buildin' my core'n regainin' my balance. 've done all the groundwork with 'er 'n she's more'n ready. 've ya gotten yer mares teeth checked? she might be'n need 'f havin' 'em floated. she might be havin' other issues, too. my ol' palomino mare started droppin' weight 'n regardless 'f my 'fforts such 'twas futile. 'fter 2 months i'd the hubs take 'er to the vet. she'd congestive heart failure 't the age 'f 29. broke my heart, 'd a choice 'f pallative care 'r put 'er down....i chose the latter coz 'f the side 'ffects 'f the meds she'd need to be'n. i felt such 'twas the most humane.
