Has Church Become More of A Hinderance than a Help?

Last year, I wrote a book entitled WHAT IF THE CHURCH IS PART OF THE PROBLEM? I am thinking about writing a more in depth version of that book. It is something that weighs on my mind and heart.
I just feel we have lost sight of what God intended the church to be. It seems we do more to market individual congregations than to lift up Jesus. It seems the church has taken the place of the parents in our children's lives. It seems as if we have elevations programs and denomination about the relationship with Jesus.
I like hearing from other people on topics such as these. I am a very emotional, sensing person. I am also quite stubborn, so it does me good to hear from every aspect on "hot topics".
Any personal ideas on the pros and cons of the modern church that you would like to share?

I absolutely agree with you!!
I think the church should be more about JESUS and less about making church a social hour. Matter of fact church shouldnt have time constraints put on it at all! Church is an every day relationship.
The denominations should go-it's all about Him and not little other things that people can GET OVER. We go to a non denominational church where its all about Jesus, the cross, God the Father and Holy Spirit led.
We were actually KICKED OUT of a Baptist church because the Holy Spirit led my husband to pray for people in the congregation. =(
The Bible is what church should be about!

I can relate to what you all went through at the Baptist church. We started going to a church years ago, I don't remember what denomination it was, but we had just come out of a Pentecostal church. They let us know that we were welcome, but none of that Pentecostal stuff. We never went back.

well said!
I would say that I am surprised you got kicked out of a Baptist church, but I am not. We were almost fired from a church because my husband let an bi-racial family join. Fortunately, the deacons back my husband and the racist trouble makers left.

I agree that denominations have become too structured and narrow minded about things that really don't matter. I want to be a better child of God and less a better Methodist or Baptist or whatever.
