What's your version of Chex Mix?

I know there are tons of different ways to make this snack. If you're not familiar with Chex mix, it's a salty snack made usually with several types of Chex cereal, Cheerios cereal, and some other things. I just made a batch to take to our daughter's this weekend. I usually make a sweet dish of some sort, but decided to make something salty and crunchy instead. I used Chex rice cereal, Cheerios, multi grain gluten free crackers, mixed nuts, GF pretzels, and thought about adding some popped corn, but I didn't. I mixed up melted butter with Worcestershire sauce, a little garlic powder, Paprika, salt, pepper, and just a little hot sauce, then poured it over the cereals. I've read you can bake this in the microwave, but I'm baking it in the oven for an hour so the flavors can blend and all the goodies will get crispy. I like making my own (especially since it has to be gluten free for my husband and son in law) and I can adjust the spices and ingredients to what we like. Plus no preservatives, so it's a good snack. Have you ever made this? What all do you put in your recipe?

I have never made it, only ever bought it, but honestly I like most of the varieties even if I have not had it in ages.

It's super easy to make and better for you. Probably cheaper too.

@porwest That's right, I reduced the amount of salt and garlic powder in mine and added extra Worcestershire sauce.

@1creekgirl Probably is, and since I am on a salt restriction I can better deal with that as well I suspect.

I don't believe I have. I have made trail mix to watch tv by and pass around, Chex, raisins, M&M's, popcorn, etc.

@1creekgirl the flavors jest don't seem to get all 'round, nor the crispness 'f the oven method. i know why she does such, she's troubles bein'n 'er feet'n the kitchen these days. doubles the reason fer me makin' such myself.

I haven't made it in the microwave, but I have a feeling it's better in the oven.

Yours sounds good. I have tried others mixes but am not a big fan of them so I never have made any.

You'd be surprised how much better your own would be.

Yes, I've made it before. I pretty much followed the recipe. What I like is that you can make a lower salt version of what they sell in the bags. Aside from the fact that it's expensive to buy that way, it's much too salty. I'm sure everyone will like yours.
