Vatican Tombs To Be Opened : Girl missing since 1983

Emanuela Orlandi was a music student that went missing in 1983. On the 22nd of June 1983 she was late to class. A later phone call to her sister explained that she had been to see an avon cosmetics representative about possibly selling the cosmetics. 25 June 1983 a man by the name of Pierliugi calls her parents to tell them that he had had lunch with her and his girlfriend that afternoon. He described her appearance in a way that seemed credible, but also claimed that she had changed her name to "Barbaraella" and had cut her hair short. She had just run away from home and was selling avon products. 28 June 1983 A man calling himself Mario claimed to own a bar between the Vatican and Emanuela's music school. He claimed that she called herself "Barbara" and that she confided in him that she had run away from home. The pope would make a public statement, being the first to publicly say she had been kidnapped. The parents would later get a phone call from "The American" (for his accent) that claimed the previous two callers were part of the same terrorist group he was and that they wanted to exchange Emanuela for Mehmet Ali Agca, a turkish man who had shot the Pope the previous year. For whatever reason, noone seemed to believe this man though at some point he had played a recording of Emanuela's voice. What truly happened here? Was she kidnapped or had she run away from home? Perhaps the "avon rep" was actually someone tied to these terrorist group. I am linking you to the reddit post about this, but there is an article that goes into more detail about the vatican tombs set to be opened.

Sure, they allow NOW to open the tombs after months that the authorities are asking. If Emanuela was inside she has surely been moved. This is a dirty DIRTY story of corrupted politicians and powerful Vatican officers.

That's what it sounded like to me, that someone was hiding something. It's very possible that her disappearance was an inside job. I believe her father was a banker for the Vatican.

@ScribbledAdNauseum A man of the Italian Mafia who was arrested, decided to disclosure something about Emanuela Orlandi and this happened more than one year ago. There was something extremely fishy behind the fact she disappeared and I am sure we will never know. If the Mafia and the Vatican are involved (his father was a consultant of the Vatican Bank), we will never know.

@LadyDuck It is truly sad. I only hope that she did not suffer as I do not believe that she is alive.

@sophie09 Wonderful. I do like looking up these things from time to time, especially if they happened a long time ago.
