We tried something new

Canada

My mom and both grandmas made jam for as long as I can remember. I had never attempted it myself. Well the kids convinced me to buy a flat of strawberries this morning and they were ripe. Something needed to be done with them today. So I bought some jars and we made strawberry jam. We got 11 jars, along with 3 two cup bags sliced for the freezer. The kids enjoyed some as well for a snack. It’ll be a few days before we find out how successful our attempt was.

I've made jam a few times. Usually, though, when I have a surplus of fresh fruit, it gets sliced and frozen and then used in either smoothies or homemade icecream.

I haven’t done any canning or preserving by myself. I remember my mom doing it. Having all 3 kids underfoot while attempting it is a challenge. We survived this attempt. Probably will try more in the future

I like the homemade jams and jellies better than the store bought.

Homemade strawberry jam sounds so good. Great idea to make jam out of those berries. I love strawberries

A success means you can try other kinds of jam in the future.

good for you taking a chance like that. I've done some canning. I make a mean peach salsa that stores well.
