Heavenly Honeysuckle

This honeysuckle is an old native British variety which I can remember seeing and smelling in the garden of my childhood. We moved house in 1971 so Dad took cuttings and I can remember that smell through my teens and into my early 20's. When Adam and I bought our first home in 1986 Dad gave us a cutting and it was admired by all my neighbours so several cuttings were taken and given to them. We then moved to our current home in 1998 and, you guessed it, we took cuttings. As you can see, it's survived its journey well and now, some 20 odd years later, we have given cuttings to our neighbours and have planted another one on the edge of our driveway. This plant holds so many memories for me but how many tales would the plant itself have to tell? What could it have seen throughout history? If only it could talk.

If they're well cared for and are in a position they like they'll come back year after year but we do tend to cut them back in the winter. We did have a non native one in the garden but it didn't do as well as this one.

My mother was always giving away cuttings and used to say her plants must be in hundreds of West Australian gardens.
