After months and months of waiting, I finally received Nana's letter. Nana is my penpal from Malaysia and we have been exchanging letters using the traditional postal service. It's extremely slow but to receive the letter is all worth the wait. Penpal may no longer be a tradition to young generations but there are still a few who keeps the tradition. I use Instagram to find penpals, that's where I found Nana and Maimai. Maimai is an asian lady living in the US. I love writing letters using the traditional pen and paper. I have always been a fan of writing letters to penpals since I was in grade school. Would you like to have a penpal? Do you have the patience to wait for the letter to arrive?

I would enjoy having a penpal. It's nice that you have two people to correspond with.

I used to write letters to my friends and give them to each other each day or during passing period. Then, we went to e-mail. Then, chat came to service. I have not done slow traditional mail in ages. Glad you got your letter in the mail from your pen pal. Sounds like fun!

It is. It's also a trend among planner addicts actually. My penpals are very young. They're in their early 20s.

These days people don't seem to care about that anymore coz we can talk on a daily basis with people from all over the world just by texting.

I never had a pen pal. I thought it might be cool when I was a kid, but I've really never been much for writing letters.

@teamfreak16 Most of the filipino single women who can't find a boyfriend the traditional way, would search for someone on facebook and they usually search for foreign men.

@toniganzon - And now guys meet girls on the Internet. I have two good friends who met on a band message board and started talking. He came out to Colorado Springs from Philadelphia to meet her. They've now been together about 15 years. Their daughter just recently turned 11!

@Janet357 When it's not someone's passion, everything would be difficult. It is not a hobby nor an interest of yours. It is however mine, so no matter how far the post office is, I'll surely find a way to get there.

That’s good that you have maintained that since many are using the email as a way to communicate. But you’re the only one that I knew still using the traditional pen and paper correspondence.

Yes as most people don't have the patience to wait for snail mails. There's no urgency in our letters anyway. It's purely for fun. And this is common among the community of planner addicts.

@1hopefulman I consider mylot as a social media and the people here are just like social media friends. But it doesn't come close to having a real penpal. Why? First of all, the response is immediate, I don't have to wait for months and months. Secondly, I enjoy writing on pen and paper more and decorate my letter with stickers and other embellishments. I cannot do that in mylot.

Yeah, I remember it being a fad many years ago. I remember we even paid membership fees so our names would be in an international penpal book sold world-wide.

You still do until now? I had a penpal from England when I was in grade school and we exchanged letters till I was in high school. And then she stopped writing. I still remember her name though, Gillian Hinds. She would sent me photos of her and her family. I wondered what happened to her and why she stopped writing me.

My son plays ML but I don't. That's quite popular and when I see people holding their phones, they're all playing ML. Not my thing though. I play supermario on my switch. I bought my now Nintendo Switch. My son has his PS4 and his iPhone for his games.

I've been writing and sending letters since grade school. I'm in my 40's now and still send handwritten letters and cards to friends. :) Sometimes I send journaling ephemera to my IG friends via postal mail.

In this digital age, you still have patience! back in 95s I often heard about penpals but never tried one. I still prefer to use traditional post office to send any items to home or to any of my friends too

I did that long ago, but with known friends who had migrated to other countries; it was when there's no e-mails yet. But now no more. It's quite interesting to receive letters from snail mail though now we are trying to save on paper to save trees.

You know I care about the trees but I don't want to make that as an excuse not to write letters. WE use toilet papers every single day. Imagine how many trees are cut because of that. There are recycled papers to use. And not so many of us know, that using the internet and all the gadgets we own, harms the environment as well. So I don't see the point of sending emails to save trees. It's more of sending emails because we lost the patience of snail mails.

Most of the young generations who were born in the digital age don't have the patience and it's sad.
