Just a couple of minutes walk from our house is a big river. We pass it everyday and see a couple of people fishing and we’ve always wondered if they really do catch fish.
Since we have visitors from the US we wanted them to try the local life and took them fishing early this morning. This hobby can be a real test of patience specially when you don’t catch any fish.
We only managed to catch one sword fish because our hook was too big and also the fishes were too clever. They only bite the bait and not the hook. A passerby told us these fishes like shrimp bait more than fish bait. So next time we will probably try it out.
Do you like fishing? Have you tried it?

look at that water, so flat and clear. does it ever overflow, like when there's non-stop rain?

Yes it’s quite fun specially if there are actually a lot of fishes to catch. It’s thrilling when you feel the string being pulled by a fish. And yes it’s relaxing since it’s not an exhausting activity.
What do you use for bait?

when I was young I fished quite a bit. I would catch many small fish -- Sun Perch mostly but occasionally would go for channel catfish. As I grew older, I have felt the need to be moving to be out and doing things. Fishing seemed such a loss of time where I could be accomplishing something, that I quit doing it.

Hmm is cat fish edible? We tend to cook our catch but I heard some fishermen return it to the sea. What one are you?
You’re right though fishing takes too much time, but at the moment I’m unemployed and waiting for my deployment so I kind of have so much time in my hands.

@flapiz Freshwater channel catfish are edible. They are a pain to clean though, One must peel the skin off them, they are not scaled like most fish. I would always eat what I caught, there was one time though that I did not get to eat my catch, something ate most of it while it was on the stringer in the water.

Yes that’s true we spent three hours and only caught one fish. We had 5 near catches though. Our hook was too big for the sword fish.

I enjoy fishing, mostly salt-water fishing, but every now and then I'll go fishing in a nearby lake. I don't have time to fish as much as I used to. Fishing definitely takes patience.

@flapiz I would enjoy fishing much more if I could set up a hammock at whatever spot I was in, lay in it with a nice cold adult beverage, and just enjoy the day while waiting for that first fish to bite....

It’s actually pretty simple. All you need is a spot where there is fish. A hook a nylon string a stick and some bait. Attach the bait to the hook and drop it in water and wait till fish takes a bite and pull on the string.

A lot of Perth residents loves fishing or at least have tried. Yep it is quite boring waiting for the fish if your patience is not really elastic But maybe fishing and reading a book at the same time will be more ore less more productive.

@flapiz My Boss brought them when we have our team building and since he likes fishing I tried his arrow, we go fishing in the rock part of the beach and there we got plenty of fish. Once you caught one fish you can’t stop getting another one.
