Sage and Poppies

This complementary pairing wasn't by design. I had poppies in my garden last year but didn't dead head them all. That way I knew I had a good chance of getting some this year from the seed heads that I'd left. I must admit I was rather expecting the poppies to be in the middle of my flower beds but this one decided to tuck itself under my sage. I'm amazed it managed to find its way through the tough foliage of the sage

It's a volunteer. I think that is what they call it. Seeds can travel quite some distance sometimes.

I'm glad it did. It looks happy. I planted my first ever bulbs up at the cabin (Dahlias, I think) before I left. We'll see if anything happens.
