How you decline an invitation?

What if someone invited you to join a party? or to attend to a wedding? or to be promoted? but! You don't want it! How are you going to refuse or decline it? If we say directly 'No' it seems that we're rude so some of us have follow-up words or sentences like, I'm sorry but I can't because I need to go somewhere, so how about you?

@sophie09 Haha, yeah it is, because for me I always say "I'll check if I'm free" and in the other day they're going to ask me again, and I'll say the same thing that I'll check if I'm free

Yes, I have declined a wedding invitation this Spring. That was because I am back in Germany. The wedding was in the Philippines.

Oh I see, that's a different country. Did they accept it? I guess they can't do anything about it.

Actually, that depends on who invited you for what occasion. If it is a family or friend's wedding, you have to make time. No is not an option. If it is a birthday party that is difficult to fit in to your schedule, be honest and say no. If it's inuman because your friend got promoted, even if it is our culture to tagay, your prerogative to beg off, as drinking is not your thing, Cardinal rule - be honest.

@tech40 That's actually the primary reason I am in mylot - to share the knowledge and in return, learn my self. I discovered though that most people here are real, with sentiments same as mine. I felt happy when one is happy. Sadly, I felt the sorrows, too. I resolved to pray for the people who need assistance. I discovered again that it is I who feel more joy after praying for friends here. Thanks, Jandie. Spread the knowledge, too.

@tech40 Yes. But if its a wedding and I don't go, I still send a gift. Same with a birthday. I would try to not get invited by saying I'm busy and if I don't get a proper invite via Facebook invite or card in hand then it would not apply to me.

We cannot just apologize and say we are not able to attend or cannot make it. I don't think we have to explain why or go into deals. Saying that should be enough.

You're right, but there are times we need to make good excuses so that they'll not feel offended, people nowadays easily get offended when they gets rejected

@lovebuglena Ooh I see, so you're the one who'll pay if you'll join the party? Well, that will be different then, because when you invited someone on a party or celebration, you don't have you pay anything, you just need your presence there

It's easy to ssy no to refuse the invitation if it's not important and it's difficult to deny an important occasion.

You're right! If the invitation isn't much important it's easy to think an excuse, but it's important it's so hard to decline it because if you're going to decline it they'll gonna feel offended.

There are enough health issues which last only for a short time which you can use as an excuse like migraine, stomach ache, diarrhea, a fever.

You're right about that, but it's commonly used here to decline an invitation, If someone used it here, it clearly shows that you're rejecting it
