Take care of yourself and each other

Yesterday and today have been hot and humid, not the type weather I appreciate. I have stayed indoors most of the weekend, it was to hot for me to get out and enjoy the day. Saturday my son and his girlfriend invited me to go to Rib Fest with them and as much as I appreciated the invite I let him know there was no way I could go. It was 89 F with the heat index at 97 F and not a cloud in the sky. That was to hot for me. It only got worse from there, they left at 1 pm and said they were going to stay till about 10 pm. I gave them some sun screen (spf 50), they both wore hats and took my cooler filled with ice and water. It was about 7 pm they came rolling in and I could see on their faces right away they were not doing well. I had them take a cool shower, kept the ice water flowing and had them relax in the living room where the AC keeps it cooler. They started to feel much better after a while. I called a friend of his that went with them to see how he was doing. He said he wasn't feeling to well either, I told him to take the cool shower since he hadn't yet and that he should keep drinking the ice water. His girlfriend was on her way there from work and was bringing him some Gatorade. He called later said the shower helped a lot and that he was doing alright. I asked if they had been drinking beer, he said when they first got there but then they started to feel very hot and he said he knew from me always telling him it's the worse thing to drink when it's that hot out, he convinced them all to stop drinking beer and only drink water. Once he felt good enough to drive home they left. They are all doing much better today and all is well. Lesson of the day...don't drink alcohol on very hot days, it might taste good and be nice and cold going down but it is actually dehydrating you. If you feel the need to drink on those hot days remember you are going to need to drink almost twice the amount of water to stay hydrated. Be careful out there and take care of yourself and each other.

Yea, the safest thing to do is just stay in the AC if that is an option. That is the option I took cause I knew how the day would be and how I was going to be feeling if I went with them.

We have been staying in the past few weeks because of the high heat and humidity as well. We have to watch out for neighbours and for pets, we are all affected by the summer's heat.

Wow must be very hot where you live, I’m in Canada very close to Niagara Falls...it gets hot some times but air conditioning keeps us cool. I’m visiting my daughter who lives farther north than I and the weather is beautiful. We went to a big beach for fun and it was really hot, so glad we brought beach umbrellas.

It was pretty hot and humid here. Just got to be smart and stay out of the sun, keep hydrated and know when to call it a day.

Yea, need to keep that sun block on. Who wants to get sun burn, that stuff hurts.

I'm always careful. Anyway, whether it's a big heat or a storm, nothing is as it used to be, everything is much more powerful
