A Dahlia Afterthought

I got 8 dahlias from Amazon and planted up seven of them but struggled to find a suitable space for the last one. There was a spot behind my sage and beneath my apricot tree, both of which give a considerable amount of shade but, rather than throw it away I thought I'd give it at least a remote chance of life and planted it behind the sage. As you can see, it's really happy there and was, in fact the first of my dahlias to flower. I'm hoping that, as it's shaded so well from in front and above it will stand a good chance of surviving the winter.

That is another really pretty plant. There are several varieties too in the shape of the flower - ball is one that I know of.

Dad used to grow the double ones. Not sure if all of my dahlias are gong to be singles but, whatever they are, just as long as they're bright and cheerful and attract the wildlife I'm happy!

These are single blooms but I can remember when I lived at home back in the 1960's and 70's Dad grew the double varieties.
