My Beautiful Bully Boy

We currently have bullocks in the meadow at the bottom of our garden and I love to watch them grazing happily and looking very relaxed, blissfully unaware of their fate. So this afternoon, before I cut the lawn I wandered down to the bottom of the garden and one in particular seemed extremely interested in me.
He was pale and had a wonderful curly head. Whereas the others got on with their grazing he just stood and watched. I spoke to him gently and then tried blinking my eyes slowly and smiling at the same time. We do this to our cats and they always blink back. Seems it works on cattle too ... he happily stood blinking at me.
This just shows me that these beautiful creatures are intelligent and react to kindness. But this reaction as well as learning today that cattle cry when they're upset or frightened has made me so glad that I no longer eat meat or dairy.
I didn't have my camera with me when I had my 'commune' with him but, having cut the lawn, I saw him relaxing with his pals so quickly snapped a pic.

I don't think I'd want to be caught in a herd of them but it's great being able to stroke them over a barbed wire fence!

I saw a video of a cow crying when it's calf was being taken away shortly after it was born. It was heartbreaking listening to both the cow and the calf both crying out for each other and the cow desperately trying to get past the humans that were holding her back. But I do know they have similar emotions to humans ... as do all mammals.

I'm trying to show them that humans can be nice! Although sometimes I think nice ones are few and far between!!
