As soon as I saw this article warning about black licorice, it had my attention because I love black licorice!
People 40 years and older must be cautious when consuming black licorice because it contains glycyrrhizin, a sweetening agent found in licorice root. Eaten in large quantities it can trigger your potassium levels to drop, causing irregular or unusual heart rhythms, hypertension, edema, sleepiness and/or heart disease.
Consuming as little as 2 ounces of black licorice per day over a 2-week period can cause an irregular heart beat.
Black licorice can also interact with some medications, herbs and supplements; so check with your doctor if you consume black licorice on a regular basis.

I don’t like black licorice so I guess I don’t have to worry about eating it. Now is this all licorice or just black. We don’t buy it because of the food dye a lot of it my 4 year old is allergic to because it holds gluten in them.
