2019 – Spoiler alerts A great Spiderman movie and the first Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) feature for the post Avengers Endgame era. That Mysterio was the chief protagonist was exciting as I always found him one of the best villains in the comics. The film plays well on whether he is really a new hero here but I expect even comic fans won’t have been fooled too much. The effects on the illusion battles were great, and I particularly liked zombie Iron Man. There were no really big surprise until the mid-closing credits, and even the Krull were no big surprise but the new yet old J Jonah Jameson was jaw-dropping. That the character has appeared is no big deal itself, as it was inevitable, but J K Simmons returning to play him after bringing the character to life in the Sam Raimi pre-MCU trilogy was amazing. Quite a cliff-hanger he left for everyone too. I loved how the film inverted some of the big superhero movie clichés. 1/. The hero takes the leading lady for a romantic sky trip over the city and he finds it really arousing, except MJ is clearly jut terrified through the whole trip. 2/. The human heroes find or improvise weapons and trash alien tech or henchmen. Here, the Tower of London weaponry proves totally unwieldly for them. Happy tries throwing a shield Captain America style and just drops it on the floor. Never trusted drones. Like them even less after this. No doubt there will be a Spidey 3, and it would be great to see Kraven The Hunter as the villain next time round. Arthur Chappell

I am not a lot into comics and to be honest I do not know who Mysterio is, but this film seems more interesting that the usual of the kind.

@amadeo that was a good one too though there was a dire TV version before that too in 1977
For the first time on the screen... the world's favourite adventure super-hero comes alive

Mysterio seems a bit overrated though.

@ihasaquestion in the comics he was a movie special effects expert - the use of drones was a great high tech upgrade on that. I think he worked really well.
