Now, I will put coffee powder in that!!

People, how are you today? I hope you're having a great day. I wish you all the best things happening and sending you all the cheers from my side. Yesterday, by this time, we were in a mild shock after a very mild tremor in California(4.3 magnitude at 1:11pm). It was just Mayuri and I at home, my husband has gone for a business travel. We were able to manage the situation, as it was nothing major. We'd our apartment community groups to coordinate with, regards to this situation. I also learnt that these mild conditions are very common and frequent here. So, we just moved on. Today, I was just thinking of yesterday's situation for a while and I was(sorry we were) cooking the veggies. Mayuri has become so sweet to assist me with the kitchen works. I will give the ingredients and she will put/pour in the cooking pan. This is her favorite pass time these days. I'm just putting the conversation that happened today between us. That was really sweet!! Really!! Me: Mayuri, let's now put some sugar in the cluster beans. Your grandma had thought this to me and that will make the veggie so nice to taste. ( I gave a spoon of sugar in her hand. I cautiously held her hand, to make her not to touch the pan that was hot) Mayuri : is this enough? Me : Nope, take a bit more and put it. Mayuri : ( She slides the spoon again) Me : That's enough. Thank you sweetie for helping me. You're awesome, I know .. Mayuri : Mom! Now, I will put some coffee powder in that. Me: what!!!! ( It did not strike me for a moment) Mayuri : Coffee powder!!!?? Me: Oh my goodness!! ************ For Mayuri, she knows very well that coffee powder plus sugar are inseparable and Mama would surely put it together wherever she uses any one of them.. ROFL.. She must be very smart.. With that conversation, I wrapped up my cooking session in the kitchen. Now's it lunch time for both of us. What's cooking up that side in your kitchen? Any interesting dish? Photo : that was cluster beans veggie prepared by me .. very hot from the pan..

That is such a cute story! It’s never too early to learn to cook and your cluster bean veggies look delicious! So glad the earthquake was harmless.

Thank you so much, Dianne. =) Exactly. That's the reason why I give her a green signal and allow her next to me in the kitchen. Earlier, I would be cautious to keep her away considering her safety. Aaah. We don't know what happens in the kitchen. Like yesterday, I burnt my thumb when the boiled milk spill over. Was so horrible. These things keep running in my mind and I feel it's better to keep my daughter away when I cook. Thank you again for the comment over those veggies. That's one of Mayuri's favorite thing. Regarding the earthquake, yes, we were so lucky and it came & went in no time. Thank God!

@DianneN Thank you so much! =) Oh, that's good to know. Kids grasp things so easily. It's just the parents who are reluctant to give them those activities considering their safety. Your son is so cool and nice to know that he cooks well.

@smileyhema You are a good mother and I'm very happy the earthquake was harmless. My son's piano teacher taught him how to fry eggs and use a knife. He was 8 years old at the time,. I was happy he didn't burn himself or cut his fingers off. Now he's a wonderful cook.

Haha! Yeah, Dani. She likes to help me in all possible ways. In fact, she couldn't tolerate if the dried clothes are left unfolded. She will chase me and ask me to do that soon. She helps in that too. I'm learning so much from her. She's really sweet. As you'd mentioned, these will create good memories for us to cherish. Thank you so much for those uplifting words, Dani. Cheers.

@smileyhema I’m sure Mayuri will grow up to be a good cook. It’s good you’re letting her help a little in the kitchen. It’s a good training.

@flapiz Yes. You may be right here. She will definitely become a great cook, for she always has likings to watch the way I'm cooking. Needless to say that my mother-in-law is a great cook as well. Mayuri just inherits most of her grand mother's traits. Cooking will surely be in the top of that list. I let her in the kitchen because she often gets bored. She is really bored of all her educational activities. I need to get something new for her. When I was a kid, my parents did not allow me in the kitchen either. What I developed because of that is the fear and difficulties. It took so much time for me to understand the cooking environment. I wouldn't blame my parents, as they did not want me to get burdened with those tough things in my childhood. So thinking on all these aspects, I wish Mayuri doesn't grow like me. She should get the essence of all the practical things of life. But, I should be cautious with her. She should know all the threats behind each and every thing. Then, she will be okay and that will be a perfect training. =)

Haha. Thank you so much, my sweet friend =) LOL. Yeah, we should give it a try or perhaps Mayuri will try them once she experiments in the kitchen when her turn comes. Wow what a beautiful line. So very true, dear! I don't like cooking from books. I wish to try different variants in cooking. It's truly applicable for this situation.

My children liked to help cook too, so interesting when they are young. Scary to live in a place where the mild tremor can scare you... Your photo looks delicious and NO no coffee in it for me....

Oh, that's so nice to know that your children were of help to you in the kitchen. Sweet! Yes, it was bit scary. I was anxious about it, that night. But, later I understood that it's very common here and got used to the feel. :-) Thank you so much for your comments. Very uplifting. Hehe, sure! No coffee for you in that. Will make a note.

@PainsOnSlate Haha! That must have been a thrilling experience to your parents. My parents are in India right now. The moment they hear some news happing in the US, they used to ring me that moment to check of everything is fine. I wouldn't be aware of the news on the first place. They will only educate me that such things happened. Just 2 days before, they called to check regarding the shooting that happened in California. Each and every day, it brings some news or the other and my parents would call and ask me to return to homeland. Haha... I know, there are problems everywhere. It's just they would feel bit better if we're close by.

@smileyhema I used to live in Kansas, famous for tornado's ....my parents drove to Kansas from New York when I was a newly wed...the minute they arrived the sirens started and I hurried my parents into the house and into the basement....my dad had no idea what was going on so I explained a tornado has been seen around - therefor the siren... his response was you didn't have to do that for us .... shortly there was another sound that meant the tornado was gone and we went up stairs and enjoyed the family the right way.

Sounds delicious, but like you I'd never heard of coffee powder in cooking veggies...soy yes, but not coffee powder. I guess coffee powder is instant coffee? Your veggie dish looks like a lot of sweet green peppers which I love! I cook them with a little olive oil, sprinkle soy and lemon juice to taste and usually have them half cooked. I love the crunch from half cooked sweet peppers.

haha! That's the thing. I mean my daughter did not know that we should never used those coffee grounds in cooking. The moment I used some sugar on them, my daughter thought that we should put coffee grounds next. LOL Yeah, instant coffee I meant. Thanks for your comments. Oh, that's a nice recipe..

@smileyhema There are some coffee recipes that I've come across, but it's for using coffee itself mixed into some kind of dessert or coffee liqueur mixed into like an egg nog or cake to make it rich. Did you know that cakes are made to be most moist with mayonnaise mixed in?

@MarshaMusselman Yeah. Thanks for your valid concerns. I just get reminded of my dad by seeing your words. He always cares for safety in the kitchen and at other places too. That's the reason why I did not learn cooking when I was young. I learnt only after my marriage. I completely understand that this might not be a good time for Mayuri to start with all these. I also take utmost care when she's around in the kitchen. In fact, I tend to divert her most of the times when I'm cooking. I will give her some activities to work on. Only when she gets bored , she used to run behind me in the kitchen and asking me to give her the cooking stuffs.

@smileyhema I would agree that trees might be a bit young in the kitchen although they do like to help make baked goods. I would just shoo them out when it's time for the oven. I would think are 8 would be when they may begin to understand the reasons for safety in the kitchen although 12-13 are when their thought process get more sound. But if they behind babysitting at 12 they may needed to know to to cook simple things safely. Good luck.

Yes. She's really interested to do all those stuffs. Also, she's getting bored at home. It's just we both in home at most of her active time. She wants to do all the real stuffs.. and she imitates me. Earlier, I used to divert her from all these works. But now, I think let her learn all these stuffs. I can be more careful if required. I can mould her easily with all these activities which will be helpful for her at a later stage.
