England are Cricket World Champions! I'm still elated at my countries nerve jangling victory over NZ at Lords on Sunday. It doesn't get any closer than that. Four years we have been preparing for this and although half the squad were born abroad enough of them learnt their cricket there to call it an English team. There were many moments in the match where each side lost runs or should have got one more or , indeed, one less, sport, when two teams are equally matched, at its most exiting. Lords had a grassy wicket to level the sides even more and it produced that extraordinary match. Its England's first Cricket World Cup win after 24 years of terrible performances in the competition . Somewhat bizarrely the ECB - who run England & Wales cricket - are downgrading domestic 50 over cricket next season to a level where grounds will be empty so to make room for the hated and new Hundred competition.
