“Mama, please come over here!”

Yesterday, my son bathed 3 of our dogs while my sister went to the city for some errands. My son asked me to brush the fur of our dogs after they are bathed, which I did.
After that, he called me loud:”Ma, please come here!”
I went to him and asked why. He said, “Please see this if this is a worm or a thick red string”.
I looked closely, then suddenly that thing moved. I screamed and said, “That is a live earthworm”, and I walked fast inside the house, trembling.
My son laughed. I said, “Do you want me to die now? You know I am scared of earthworms, just like you scared of spiders.”
He said, “I will bring the worm to the moist soil, Ma, so it will burrow itself down to the ground”.
He did it then said, “Ma, ‘wala na’ (no more)’.
My fear of earthworms gives me jitters, trembles, nearly fainting spells, and anger. Good thing my sister was not at home; she would be the very persistent bully to me.
Do you have phobias that give you jitters?

@ridingbet Yes, there are two, I see them time by time. They are not poisonous and they are useful because they eat slugs and mice, but I fear them.

Earthworms are never a threat to us, In fact they are the most vulnerable animal since they are defenseless to their predators since they do now even have a venom to defend themselves. We can easily crush them if we want to. I would understand if it was a snake that can bite and kill us. But earthworms are no threat to us.
I remember when I was young I used to collect them under stones and would feed them to our small pond with fish.

@ridingbet Yeah I guess when we were young we are easily taught to fear something that may not be harmful to us in reality. Then we bring that fear as we grew up and the fear just woould not let go anymore even though we now know there is nothing to be feared with that creature.

yes, i fully know that. they also belong to the first or lowest part of the ecological system. it is just that i developed the fear when my older brother (the one who is in UK) approached me with live earthworms, and that made me tremble.

my son is so afraid of spiders. even if the spider is so tiny, he calls me loud and says, "Ma, there is a spider".
when my only grandson (grandchild of my sister) was a year old, my son and his 2 cousins had their fears (spider, worm, centipede) painted on their faces. i thought my son will overcome his phobia. i am wrong.

@ridingbet it's the black spider that has venom and we should avoid it. If see a spider in your home better eliminate regardless of color for they multiple after hitching an egg which carries hundred baby spiders.

@ridingbet that is not the one, earthworm has no venom. It's the one that is black in color. That black colored worm cannot easily be killed.

@ridingbet one climbed up to my deck and was hanging out while I hung clothes, he got a basket of clothes thrown on him and I high tailed it out of there. The deck s just not big enough for the two of us.

@mom210 that would be morbid to imagine. a snake hanging loosely and staring at you.
