Lyme-Diseased Ticks a Government Experiment?

Before I tell you about this, let me just say that these are strictly allegations. There may or may not be any truth to what I'm putting forth. I happen to think it could be possible. Last week the U. S. House of Representatives quietly passed a bill requiring the Inspector General of the Department of Defense (DoD) to conduct an investigation as to whether the Pentagon experimented with ticks and other blood-sucking insects for use as a biological weapon between 1950-1975. If such experiments occurred, then information must be provided as to "whether any ticks or insects used in these experiments were released outside of any laboratory by accident or experiment design". This could have led to the spread of diseases such as Lyme disease. Possible research facilities were Fort Detrick, Maryland, and Plum Island, New York. 300,000-437,000 new cases of tick-borne diseases are diagnosed each year, 10-20% of which are Lyme disease. Even though Richard Nixon banned biological weapons research in 1969, such experiments may have continued. The symptoms of what is known as Lyme disease were potentially described in Scotland in 1764. Recent research has indicated that Lyme disease bacterium was present in America in pre-Columbian times, many thousands of years before Europeans arrived on the continent. What do you think about these allegations? Are there a lot of tick-borne diseases in your area? This year is supposed to bring a bumper crop of ticks because of the mild winters and heavy rain. I'm not one of those "tin foil hat" wearing or Spooky Mulder kinds who sees government conspiracies around every corner. With that said, if it came to light that such experiments were done, I wouldn't be overly surprised.

When it comes to the U.S. Government, I think there are a LOT of things we do not know when it comes to anything warfare related, and honestly I come from the school of thought, "I do not need to know." All of these programs and experiments are ultimately to keep me safe, so I really don't care what we do, and I also believe that any technology we would employ would be used responsibly. Mostly. It makes me think of Area 51. I do not believe there are aliens there or even alien spacecraft. But I do think we are doing some VERY secret work there both in terms of warfare and aviation. I am not the least bit worried that anything done would do anything but protect me and the rest of the American people.

I hav heard that ticks carry the bacterium that gives Lyme disease. And there are many other insects that carry bacterium that are harmful for human beings such as dengue fever and others. But it is quite another thing, EVIL I would say, to make biological weapons. There is no reason in the world to even experiment with that purpose in mind.

It would not surprise me if they did. The ticks have not seemed too bad here this year.

I read about this and I hope it is not true. Thankfully my cats stay indoors.
