While reading another post and having a little conversation with @LindaOHio and @CarolDM I thought I should do a little series of "Did You Know". So this starts it off, I will be posting now and then a series of post about famous people that have served in the military.
Being a veteran its close to home for me and I often wonder why this is rarely mentioned when we talk about celebrities. Well, here I will mention it. Here are two you might not know.
Pat Sajak: Born in Chicago in October of 1946, best known as the host of the television game show Wheel of Fortune. Did You Know he served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict? He worked as a disc jockey for Armed Forces Radio Network.
Bea Arthur: Best known for the TV series "Maude" and "Golden Girls" had enlisted in the Marine Corps Women's Reserve. She is know to be one of the first of the Women's Reserve where she drove trucks and was a typist. She enlisted under her given name of Bernice Frankel in 1943, she would rise to the rank of Staff Sergeant before her honorable discharge in 1945. She would change her name in 1947 after marrying fellow marine Robert Arthur.
Did You Know? Next time..The movie bad azz and the guitar god.

I post a list of country music performers who are veterans every year for Veterans Day on my country music blog. One of the things I find interesting about it is the number of people who lied about their age to join, especially during World War II!
