I don't even know where to begin. I am sure most of you are in the same position with what I am going through so this is just to let you all know and having a conversation with friends. Yesterday, I got a bill from Duke electric company for nearly 800 dollars. Daughter called and made arrangements for me pay half but the rest they want first of the month. I only get paid once a month around 17th. So here 2 days after I got my money I am already nearly broke from bills, medicine, and essentials/extras like food, toilet paper, soap,etc. Needless to say I had a terrible sleepless night what with trying to get finances off my mind and the heat, pain, and breathing problems. Done almost everything friends have suggested. I am so tired of needing and asking for help all the time. I just feel like giving up on trying to survive sometimes. I probably would have already if not for some of you who have helped me here and others online. You know who you are my angels I would mention you but not sure if you want me to do so. To top it all off, I seen on the news that weather is going to be hotter then ever the coming week. Which will mean even higher electric bills for us all even when we try not to use the AC so much. I wanted to try another go fund me but daughter said "stop that !" you will be all right. " Apparently she thinks she has a plan but I don't think she realizes how much I don't have nor that 1200 worth of bills is coming up by the 1 st and I don't have it or wont even till the 17 th again Please say a prayer as I am praying for all my friends here and else where daily also. Daughter got paid so now she is off to buy stuff to make tacos before work tonight. yum what are you having ?

i'd be readin' that meter myself e'ery month's that seems 'xcessively high (read down 'n saw 'twas 2 months worth). my bill fer last month 'twas $164.26 'n that'd be fer 2 houses (one which's the well). such'd most likely be 't least $50 cheaper/month if'n the hubs'd fix the roof/skirtin''n sidin'. i've been tryin' to get 'im to put a roof o'er the trailer since we got married. such would'a saved a fortune o'er the years. 's fer yer bill? they might be averagin' such from last summer - when ya didn't reside there. i know when i'd momma's house rented'n town, those young'uns ran'p huge electric bills (they'd a pool table'n the garage - which 'twas not well insulated, so's they left the kitchen door open 'n set the a/c to 60...) 'n when momma moved back'n, she nearly fainted . i called 'n 'twas told they'd averaged such. sent a fella out to read the meter 'n made the proper 'djustments.

@cacay1 true. the kids are laying it all off on me saying it is because not understanding this type of thermostat I kept asking them to turn it up and down with how the weather was. Florida weather has always confused me.

I can't fathom that electric bill. Is there a way to get caught up and go on energy assistance? We have a heat advisory today. I didn't pay attention to the next seven days. I hope things get better for you and you don't spend all your time worrying about your finances.

thank you. Wish I could stop worrying and I would if I had someone here with the for thought to help before it's too late. I'm just going to have to pray that I can keep calm and get myself out of this predicament

Oh dear, I'm happy I don't have AC! 800 dollars is a lot. My last electricity bill was about 250 dollars, not too bad although about 20 % more than last year. I've used less but the electricity has become more expensieve. I've got a fan. I might have to run it next week, it's supposed to be 25-30 degrees and I'm not really fond of heat. I use more in the winter when it's cold.

yes it has and ours is is usually around 200 to 300 bucks . but the heat and awful condition this house is in brought it way up plus I forgot last months some how which I apparently would not have had money for anyway since I barely made it to pay day. yes I imagine your bill is higher in winter, trying to keep warm thanks friend

@bunnybon7 I've done it the other way around with the union bill. Not this year, but the last two years I've paid the same bill twice and then wondered "Where did all my money go?" I'm trying to be sensible with the heating in winter, but some times you just have to. Saving electricity is tricky though, it's easy to forget that things left on stand-by will use some power etc.

I was just depressed. How a person gets when they have no social life, no partner, and not even able to have a pet cause I can't take care of one. Im okay a while now

@bunnybon7 I am so so sorry what you are going through and that these companies will not give you a plan for payment you can do. Tacos sound good. I think around the 19th of August I will have tacos. I understand about the giving up part. I have had things happen in my life and only a few could help me and they ignored me and had to keep asking for their help. Life is not easy and I understand that very well. Please take care of yourself and so glad you have your daugher to help you through this.

Something is really wrong with that electric bill. My bill in Florida for last month of $80 and I keep the AC on all year and the fridge is plugged in. You need to find out if you are paying for your landlords electric or if something is really wrong, You can choose who provides your electric you need to look into that. I don't have Duke, I have Sumter Electric.

yes maybe I should go back to our other one.(mylot won't let me put the name in . Crazy name that They weren't bad. Even though they were never willing to let you go over one day. But I kept up and it was never over 300 bucks even in summer. we are trying different strategies here. thanks.

my daughter just told me they already checked when we moved in. The problem came when I missed the bill. plus, we have a different type of thermostat here that is way old fashioned. one of those round things you need a magnifying glass to see what it is set on. I don't think it works right and we can't afford to install one for the landlords convienience ! uuhhgg

OMG! why is the power bill so high? I live down here with the heat and the a/c stays on for Tony at 72-75 but mine is around $300 a month for a few months. Have you asked Red cross for help? May God bless you , keep you cool and get that bill paid.

That is 2 months bills. Apparently I some how missed Junes bill. I had it all down pat when to pay which at the other place but here it's starting over at other companies and other times. I usually go online and pay on time but with all the confusion etc. that has come with the move and once you are behind it's nearly impossible to catch up as you know I am sure. Even with help we barely made it through last month. I could kick my own azz if I was able Thanks dear friend.
