Home are the Campers, Home from the Woods

We departed camp early this morning in a vain effort to beat the heat. We did beat the worst of what today is throwing at us. The heat index when we arrived at the house was only 100F/38C. Had we waited to leave until after lunch as originally planned we would have been hooking up the camper under much warmer conditions.
I have lots of souvenirs from our trip. They are gifts from the horseflies and mosquitoes that feasted on me during our few forays out of doors. Some of the horseflies were particularly vicious. I fear they may be in league with the Wolf Spiders with whom I have been at war for some time.
This trip will be our last for a while. We won't be camping again until the US Labor Day Holiday in early September. Perhaps it won't be so hot by then.
How did you spend this weekend? What do you have planned for the coming week?

When we lived in Alabama the only place we camped between Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day weekend was the North Georgia Mountains. November was a much pleasanter time of year to sleep without air conditioning!

@SophiaMorros You shouldn't have to worry about heat up there in August. Snow, maybe, but not heat.

@DWDavis We plan to camp in August...but we'll be in Acadia National Park.

I mostly stayed in front of a fan. Those horseflies give a nasty bite.

@DWDavis As far as I know they dont carry anything. At least I have never had a problem. But they can leave a heck of a hole in you for a few days.

I don't know how summer seems to be prime camping season, as I don't understand how anyone can camp in this extreme heat. Maybe it's different for me living in Florida, where it seems to be hot 9 months of the year, but I only like to go camping in the cooler months. In fact, I just booked a few campground sites yesterday for November, December and January.

@moffittjc We used to tent camp when the boys were kids. I honestly don't think it got as hot then. Seems every summer is hotter than the last. I know this past June was the hottest on record since they started keeping records in 1880.

@DWDavis Oh definitely. Summer is when families can vacation together. I get that, but how in the world can they handle camping in such heat? Hotel...yes! Tent...no! haha

We're spending a lot of time indoors because of the bugs. Not many horseflies or worse moose flies but the mosquitoes and deer flies have been really bad.

I have had friends visit and entertained them! 100F is far too hot for me! I would be huddled next to the Air conditioner! Shame you have been feasted on by the midges!
