Hammock Day 1893 - Katharine Lee Bates wrote "America the Beautiful" after seeing the view from the top of Pikes Peak. 1686 - Albany, New York, is formally chartered as a municipality. 1908 - Amy Vanderbilt was born. She was an American author and expert on etiquette. In 1952 her book, "Amy Vanderbilt's Complete Book of Etiquette" was published. It has been updated and is still sold today. She died in 1974. 1940 - Alex Trebek was born. He is a Canadian-American game show host and producer. He has been the host of Jeopardy since 1984 and has a contract through 2022. He also has hosted High Rollers, Classic Concentration and To Tell the Truth, to name a few. 1947 - Albert Brooks was born. He is an American actor, comedian, director and screenwriter. Some of his movies (some of which he wrote) are: Broadcast News, Drive, Modern Romance, Lost in America, Defending Your Life, Mother. Brooks father was a noted comedian in his day named "Parkyakarkus" and his brother is Super Dave Osbourne.
