Martin Harvey (Martin Short) is a Chicago office worker who lives with his wife, Katherine (Mary Kay Place), daughter, Caroline (Meadow Sisto) 16, and son, Benjamin (Benjamin Salisbury) 11. His uncle passes away and leaves him a 60-foot yacht once owned by Clark Gable. Martin decides to take his family to the Island of St. Pomme de Terre (Saint Potato) to pick it up so he can sell it. Katherine doesn't want to go until she learns that Caroline just got engaged to an unsavory character. Upon arrival at Saint Potato, they find that the yacht, the Wanderer, is in terrible shape. After hearing about the condition of the boat, the yacht broker cancels the experienced captain that was to help them sail to Miami, and hires a local sailor, Captain Ron Rico (Kurt Russell). Captain Ron has one eye and a very lackadaisical attitude. Captain Ron is loyal to Martin and calls him "boss"; but Martin doesn't think that he knows what he's doing and writes "moron" in his diary. The Harveys learn that Captain Ron doesn't know how to navigate. They stop at a random island in the Caribbean. Martin goes on a nature hike and runs into a small band of guerrillas. Captain Ron secures Martin's freedom by agreeing to giving the guerrillas a lift to the next island. When they arrive in San Juan, Martin and Katherine are arrested for smuggling guerrillas onto the island. This movie is a comedy released in 1992 and is rated PG-13. It received mostly negative reviews from the critics, did poorly at the box office; but it is funny; and I think it's worth a watch. You will enjoy Kurt Russell as Captain Ron; and Martin Short is always funny. Watch it some night when there's nothing else on; and let me know what you think! Photo Credit: Pixabay

Great review. Sometimes the best movies are those with low reviews and bombed at the box office.
