My iPhone will be Out of Date

It's already an old phone version 4S. I have noticed some applications cannot be updated here as they require newer version of the phone. IPhone 4S has version 9. That's the latest already. More application require at least version 10 or later. I have no other version but probably change my phone to the one with Android Os, which I know accept all applications. My questions are why doesn't iphone update the older version like 4S? This means that iphone manufacturer has already left their older product. What do you think of this? What is your smart phone operating system, by the way?

@kepweng Android OS is more popular. Besides, its price is good.

@yanzalong I don't like it either. They should have done something with the older models and didn't leave the users behind.

For the time being, I cannot afford to buy a phone, so I have to make do with what I have.

@IamKYLE When an iPhone is broken, it costs quite a lot of money to get it fixed.

I think other phone companies also have this same kind of practice. When software updates do come it is made based on the current hardware of your phone. Iphone or any other phone manufacturer can only update its software based on the hardware capacity to accept updates. Yours is Generation 4 so software for that can only accept updates that are suitable for that model only. When software updates are made they can only accomodate those with the latest hardware components and the older you phone is the least update can that accept. Same with Android they have different version and as time goes by the older version will not update anymore because the newer version of Android will require much powerful hardware.

@yanzalong So there is really no difference with Android and IOS when it comes to updating it. In time as they make much better hardwares for the newer cellphones the software updates can only update the much newer models because it has a much better capacity and hardware wise much better than the older ones. So as time goes by the updates will become lesser and lesser until the company decides to stop making updates because the hardware's capacity to accept updates is already limited.
