Do you believe in a Faith Healer?

Sunday, my son asthma strikes again. I really hate seeing my son suffers from it. The liquid medicine that we've given him (through a nebulizer) seems to works temporary because asthma keeps coming back. One of my relatives suggested a Faith Healer... Do you believe in such healing? Do you believe in a Faith Healer?

Faith healing is the practice of prayer and gestures (such as laying on of hands) that are believed by some to elicit divine intervention in spiritual and physical healing, especially the Christian practice. by Wikipedia

@simplfred oh thank you very much to letting me know. Of course you can do that . I want to say one thing please do not forget to give your child medical treatment it's very important. so I would say that both the things you can do first the medical care and then faith healing.

@Starkinds We've been to three Doctors already... I just hope there's a way that such kind of sickness will be healed and never to return again...

asthma is not just nebulization, there are other maintenance needed to keep asthma away. You might need to have your son check up with a pediatrician who specializes in respiratory system. Asthma, for me is manageable, controllable and at times preventable given the right medication

My request to you, please give proper medicine for your child. Then praying you can do for sure, but never rely only on praying.

We are doing our best to maintain everything but a parent like me will try everything as long as it won't hurt my child as long as there's a possiblity that will make him better.

That's a tough question. I do not believe in faith healers in the sense that God comes down and heals a sick human. But I do believe in the "laying of hands." By that I mean that a gentle expression of love can help illnesses and the pain of injuries abate. When we hug someone, or "kiss their owie," a hormone called oxytocin is released. Oxytocin makes us feel calm and attached, and suppresses cortisol, a stress hormone. Cortisol undermines the effectiveness of T-cells, which tell other white blood cells how to heal us. Bottom line: more oxytocin -- less cortisol-- healing. Hug him and ask him how he feels. Give no advice. Just show love. And listen.

@simplfred The child feels the love. The love heals. There's physiological evidence to support that idea.

That's a very interesting answer... I think it makes a very good sense... Like a mother nursing a sick child who lay her hands to the kid but also while laying hands, she was bursting a gentle prayer also...

Asthma is usually triggered by allergens. Why not see a doctor?

I haven't consulted to one but I have seen some of them back in my province many years ago. I think there are some that gets cured and there are those that do not. So I really do not know if they are authentic they are because I believe that we still have things that science could not explain but faith is able to provide.

To control the situation better I would push all you can to take him to a Lung Allergy Specialist that deals with that kind of situation. I well know the angst of bringing up a child like that only too well. I had to really push beyond the ordinary doctor for a specialist who gave him therapy some kind of immunity stuff gammaglobulina I think it was called. He eventually outgrew the worst of it and hardly has any attacks of it now. Being outside in the purest air you can get is also a good remedy against the asthma.

@simplfred A Specialist like the one I had to really struggle to be able to go to was in the best Clinic of Pamplona and he told me a lot just by listening to him breathing saying his congestion in the chest and ears was so bad he was almost deaf in one ear but only because of the pressure caused by the allergy itself. I would go way beyond the ordinary Doctor for Asthma aim for that Specialist if you can and yes the purest air is one of the ways to get him on the path to bringing down the amount of Asthma attacks. He has grown out of it because I was the one who looked after him all the time every time so I know how that feels.

No, I don´t believe in a faith healer. I was asthmatic a child. My parents gave me turtle meat adobo to cure my asthma. I was forced to eat it and it seems is helped. After that, I didn´t have an asthma attack again until I got allergic after 20 years to dust and mites and too much heat.
