Imagine a situation where you are told by your mom to stand up and your dad says sit down. Before you say anything just know that if you sit down you will disobeying your mom and if you stand up you will be disobeying your dad. So what do you do? And your reason

Well in my case back in the day it was whatever Dad said goes. But when Dad was starting to leave us then it was whatever Mama says. In the case you mention it would have to be what Dad said.

Well, he is the man of the house so most people would go with that

My parents, thankfully, agreed on things--even when it was punishment for something my brother and I did wrong.

As I´m an old lady, it is difficult to place myself in that situation. But IF that happened, I´d walk away. Parents must learn to give the same orders to their children before they attempt to be obeyed. Luckily, I did not have such childish parents and I did not gave different orders to my children. I could argue with my husband later on, but not in front of them.

I should have added an age grade in that question

I will go away and tell them that I will go back when they are in one command for me to do.

Walking out on your parents, won't that get them both angry?

If I were 17, I obeyed my father.

@evans777 Because he was my parent and it was what you did, respect and obey your parents.

I think it would depend on the total situation. If it were between my Mom and Dad, I'd stand. My mother more than my father was the dictator in my household and I didn't like to go against her.

Parents should always be on the same page with discipline and directing children. My parents would not ask me to do contradictory things.

@evans777 I would request them to first settle what exactly they want me to do.

Try to talk to your parent‘s and say it, it is better if they give only one rules but not two rules.
