Who do you call a spade a spade to?

I am sure some of us still think twice to tell someone about something bad. First, you wouldn't like the person to be annoyed or angry. Secondly, you wouldn't want the person to be disappointed. So, you still filter the words so that the person you are talking to is happy. What's your take on this? Do you always call a spade a spade no matter what it is?

If possible, avoid calling a spade a spade.

I don't really know what's the meaning of that, not good with crypted messages.

You say it good or bad without filtering the words, my friend.

No way to sugar coat bad news, just spill it.

No, not always, as it may hurt the person we are talking to.

It depends on the situation. If it warrants straight forward talk, I give it to them.

There's a good approach for that so as not to hurt a person when you want to express something unusual or bad. That is euphemism. That's using mild words or phrases.
