Will we get paid for our latest gig? Have you dealt with "sneaky" people?

I mentioned in a previous post that I'm in a rock 'n roll band where the "leader" is a little "sneaky" with the money we make. A few gigs back, he took money out of our pay for "studio space" (we meet there once in awhile) and then took more money out for a "photo shoot" that featured mostly him. I never did post about what he did with the money from our two-night "bar gig," where we made $150 each, and also made $75 in tips (*I* got sneaky and counted the tips). In that case, he actually DID pay us our $150 each, but he kept the tip money for himself (for more "studio space," ostensibly). The other afternoon, I forgot to count the tips, but I finally asked him how much we made (I haven't seen the money yet). He said we made $150 total "for the band," and didn't mention how much we made in tips. I'm wondering if I'll get paid my full $37.50, or whatever it is, plus tips, or if he'll keep some of that too. Have you ever worked with someone who presents as a "good guy," but is actually quite selfish? I'm glad to be heading off to Montana for a spell.

Yes I did as waiter. Second waiter took almost all tips for himself.

once when I was a waitress third shift we had a tip thief, I knew she stole mine because I seen them leave money, then she announced she helped me out by clearing my table but did not give me the tip. I told and the manager watched, she was stealing from all us girls, she got fired.

@TheHorse We don't type tips on bill so after shift he say we got only 20$ of bill but actually it was more than 100$.

Here's a thought: maybe the band should fire him!

H's the one who is proactive in getting the gigs. I have to give him credit for that. But I have "connections" too.

There ya go! The band needs to find a new HIM, but an honest man, or woman.

Maybe you should suggest to him, that you take turns counting the money. Of course, that will probably go over like a lead balloon..

I just have to remember to ask how much we'll be paid a priori and also to check the tips, so he can't pocket them.

There are a lot of sneaky people when it comes to money. Maybe it's time for you to have a talk.

@TheHorse Well, better find another band. I don't think that it is good to treat other people unfair just because of money. But if you are just having fine, I guess that's alright.

For some reason, the only other person to "call his bluff" has been the wife of the drummer. I don't want to get fired until I have another rock band lined up. I like playing rock. People dance.

@cherriefic It doesn't make me feel good. But playing music does. We have rehearsal tonight. We'll see if he comes up with $37.50 for each of us, plus tips. Any bets? I feel a post coming on, kind of like when you first realize you have to poop.

@TheHorse I have a friend that has been playing for years and occasionally has to get a new band together and it sure can be.

Sure I have, and that person is no longer around. I do not have time for thieves. And I most certainly am not making them a pay day. He needs you for the band, so if you cannot deal with his "entitled stealing" simply walk away.

I'll think about it while I'm in Montana. I have my Martin D-18 with me and will work on some of MY favorite songs, including the one I posted about a couple of posts ago. I almost have it down, including the finger-picking part.

Perhaps the band should vote for someone else to handle the money since it seems this leader cannot be trusted. Enjoy Montana.

Alas, I think it's kind of "accepted" that he's the leader. We had a good practice tonight, but we forgot to bring up payment for the previous gig. Snap!

i dunno why ya continue to play with that fella, hon. i'd rather plop a chair'n a sidewalk 'n play fer the masses than go through that. yup, known quite a few shady characters'n my days'n this earth. many thought 'nstead 'f payin' money they owed, they'd jest gimme baby calves. bottle babies. who cost lots to raise 'til big 'nough to go out'n pasture. then there t'was a fella we did a new roof fer (thankfully he'd paid fer the shingles 'n other supplies...). said he'd no funds, 'twas fixin' to go to prison so gave 's a papered pup. ya know coz he'd a prize winnin' chocolate lab he'd bred? sigh... i'm glad yer goin', too. though i've not seen yer holidays this summer doin' yer soul continued good. hope ya find some peace there 'n hold 't close to heart.

He's not a good singer, but he's the "river of song" that we kind of depend on. He knows a lot of tunes and sings lead on most of our tunes.

It has happened to me many times, there are always rogue people. The idea with these people is to make things clear before That happens, that way he or she will know that we are clear and we will not be scammed.

When I was working in an office, most of the days some of the employees came with their repayments for the loans given to them. But the head of the office always calculated wrongly intentionally and wanted more from them. If I tried to clear their mistakes, they simply sent me to the next room so that they can get more.
