Heart Monitor

Today is the day that we return mom's heart monitor. She got it the day before yesterday on her visit to her cardiologist. He was concerned about the rate of her heartbeat. He was specifically concerned with how slow her heartbeat is. We already knew her heart was not functioning well and only at 30%. Mom had triple bypass surgery in 2012 and has never really stuck to the heart diet prescribed to her. While she stayed with my brother after the flood and then he moved in with her after he lost his townhouse, he did not monitor her diet or buy only healthy food when shopping. He would buy whatever she asked for. I'm sure this hasn't helped the situation any but yet did contribute to it. My mom has been able to get off her stool softener and laxative since she has been staying with me. Why? She eats a healthy diet now. The new heart monitors are so cool. They are small and only about one and a half inches in diameter. If anyone is familiar, the old ones were larger than a cell phone and had to be hooked to your clothing. It was a pain to take a shower as you had to put the monitor is ziploc bag. The new monitors are also waterproof. I am really impressed with the advancement of this monitor. Returning the monitor is one of the errands on our list today for Baton Rouge. Photo: Pixaby, public domain

I’m not familiar with them, but glad your mother is getting the new one. Happy to hear she is doing better under your care. You really are such a wonderful daughter!

We have to wait until next month for those results unless it is bad. In that case, I am sure the doctor will be calling.

I had to wear a heart monitor many many years ago and it was big and cumbersome. Hope your moms report comes back good and your feeding her a healthy diet is already showing positive effects.

Yes, I remember them from when my dad was alive and my mom also had to wear one of the big giants.

I hope that the reports come out good. And she and people around her have to be disciplined about her diet.

@kareng I think that would be the right thing to do as you are more responsible and careful. It will be good for her.

I let her have a snack every so often, but yogurt and fruit are included in the variety. Everyone needs a little treat every now and then but not daily and several times a day.

It doesn't control heart, but monitors and records it for the time the monitor is worn.

I hope it is not too bad of a reading. A healthy diet can help improve things.

Yes, she loves salt and my brother would buy frozen meals for her that are loaded in sodium. It's okay for an emergency meal but not your whole diet.

I hope she is better now since she is in your care. I have a low heart rate but that is because I am so active, my normal is 57 to 65.

Wow, that's low Andria. She used to get mad at me when I took her grocery shopping. I would tell her she should get this instead of that. LOL.
