Dealing with a hormonal 12 year old

My granddaughter who lives with me is 12 1/2 and growing up so quickly. She's pretty, vivacious and ... hormonal! Slamming of doors and cries of "It's not fair!" are common occurrences these days. Where did that cute little girl go? My sister says she is very like me in temperament which is why we often clash but I hope that at the end of the day she will realise that I love her dearly and if I stop her doing something it is only because I am trying to keep her safe. My mind keeps going back to when I was her age and my dad would stop me doing things. I thought he was so mean and yet here I am in the same position and understanding exactly why he stopped me. Wish me luck!

While reading your post, my mind went back at the time I was that age. My mother was strict and I think I said many times "it's not fair". I wish you good luck.

Thank you. She's not too bad this week. It tends to go in phases but I'm hoping she will grow out of it.

@LadyDuck I hope it won't as she can be so sweet.

@sprite1950 This is not a phase that lasts too long, but it is a difficult moment.

Tell her one day you'll be 50 and you'll see then!!

I do try to explain that I'm keeping her safe and not spoiling her fun. She gets quite a lot of freedom.

My ten year old niece dealt with that from a time, but she’s way better now!

It's puberty kicking in. Some weeks are better than others.
