Homemade Chili

Homemade chili was what was on the menu last night thanks to @JohnRoberts. John suggested that I use the leftover Chinese fried rice in some chili and that sounded like a winning suggestion. Plus it was easy to make. We just topped the fried rice off with chili. It was good and everyone enjoyed it. There was just enough left for hubby to take a bowl of chili (minus the rice) to work for lunch today. Many thanks to all who gave suggestions. There were several others that I would like to try. But, I don't want another huge order from the Chinese place to put the recipe in action. This meal finished off the Chinese leftovers thank goodness. I think we will be set to avoid the Chinese place for a few weeks now. <insert big laugh here> What did you have for dinner last night? Do you like to turn your leftovers into a new meal or just toss them? Photo: Pixaby, public domain

My hubby is from a "cajun" family and rice goes with everything. I always fix white rice when making chili but would have never thought about substituting the fried rice. It was good and threw in a few vegetables to boot.

Saved me from cooking rice for the hubby to go with chili..ha. And I would have never put the two, chili and fried rice together on my own. Win. It was good too and added some veggies in there.

It looks great! It is a good way to cook the leftover like that.

Yes, it was much better than throwing the food out.

@youless And also a waste of money. Two fold waste there going down the drain by throwing out leftovers or good food.

@crazyhorseladycx I don't like hovering in the kitchen either. My territory...stay out.; unless you want to do the dishes. Ha.

My hubby is the same way and why I have to be sneaky about how I use the leftovers in new meal.

@kareng i used to be able to be sneaky 'bout 't, now he hangs o'er my shoulder 'n stays underfoot whilst i'm'n the kitchen. which'd be 'lright if'n he wished to help..which he don't.

We rarely have leftovers except chicken. I use it in sandwiches or in salad. We ate dinner out last night, and I had baked stuffed shrimp. Nothing left over. Lol! I’m not a fan of rice.

I never have been either. However, my husband's family had rice with every meal. NOOOOo.

@kareng I’m a meat and potatoes girl. I had the restaurant substitute the rice for a baked potato.

I usually wait until we have a cold snap to put on a pot of chili, but decided that we could pull this off.

Same here. I have been trying to find new ways and things to fix with them because my hubby does not like leftovers much at all.

We never toss leftovers. We always eat them one way or another. I had a bowl of lentil soup yesterday and one today.

I look at it as a fast meal to prepare. It's easy all the way around: preparation, not many dishes to dirty or clean up. Win.

That does sound good, I just had chili a couple weeks ago and it was good but we didn't have rice in it. I usually either just reheat the leftover or will mix some stuff together to finish off leftovers. I hate throwing out food.

@kareng Yea, I try not to throw out any, it's a waist of money and I also think about those that don't have food and here I am throwing it out, not if I can help it.
