You are extremely smart, stop doubting your abilities to open a laptop and put the battery in, nowadays they are ready. You can do anything if you just try.

Not to discourage you, we just bought a new computer also. The salesman said, 'Just take it home and plug it in!' This sounded so easy and that's what we tried to do. There were all kinds of things that needed to be done, we had no idea how to get it going! Ours is a desktop, sorry for being so darn negative

You can do it, setting up a laptop is generally pretty straight forward!

Good luck! Friend wanted to buy a new Chromebook for me..but of course he wanted to pay out the nose for it. The one here is OK for now.

Wishing you luck. When I got my laptop before, I had someone from the company where we bought the laptop set up. At least those basic ones.

My ex is an IT technician and we don't get along lol. Good thin your future still helps. That is very mature that he makes sure that you're okay.

@NJChicaa - I'd like to say that it shouldn't be too tough but there are some things that aren't explained very well. For instance, when you go to log in it's going to ask you whether you want to create a Microsoft account or use a local login. The really don't explain the differences between the two accounts so it's kind of difficult to decide which way you'd like to go. But I think you'll get it figured out. If not, you can always reset it and start again. Good luck.
