Really Bad News

We moved out of our house 15 years ago and moved into a ranch home which we intend to stay in...but we didn't sell our old home. We rented it out; but it was vacant for quite a few years.
Two years ago our tenant moved out; and my husband hasn't been to the house since...which means that nothing's been checked, the a/c hasn't been turned on in the summer; and the grass and weeds have grown shoulder-high.
Well, we were contacted by a real estate agent that is putting together a plot of land for a developer; and they need our house to get to the property. So my husband is at the house right now because the agent is coming over tomorrow.
I knew that there was water getting into the room off the garage (not too expensive to waterproof); but that was all that was wrong with the house. BUT, someone broke in and left 3 windows open. Yes! Rain got in. AND because the house was closed up and the a/c wasn't on, dampness caused part of one of the walls to come down; and insulation is hanging out. We knew that the roof needed to be replaced soon; but if someone (my husband) had been going over to the house on a regular basis, we could have had the roof repaired when it needed it. NOW, the ceiling is coming down in two upstairs rooms because the roof has leaked.
Normally I don't share a lot of personal stuff; but I am trying to handle this right now and not doing too well; so I thought I'd share the pain with my online friends!! :-D Of course, there's nothing we can do about this now; and we will have to take whatever they offer (if anything) because we need to stop paying taxes and utilities, etc., on this house that is now falling apart. We lived in this house for 30 years; and it makes me sad that it's now in this condition.
Thanks for listening.

What makes me mad is that it could have been prevented.

The real estate guy will be happy as much of the work of bringing down the house is already done So relax.

So they WANT it! Go high on the price and then let them haggle you down. If they want it bad enough they will pay and for them to contact YOU, they really want it so its not an eye sore for the NEW coming houses.

I have two other posts since then. They only want to pay for the land; and we have to fix up the house. Check out the other posts if you have time. :-(

Awwwww, I'm sorry. I feel bad for you and your husband. 30 years is a long time to spend in one place. It's understandable that you feel sadness.1 person likes this

Sorry that happened. Hopefully they make a good offer. If its a developer interested they may have been wanting to tear it down anyways. I know not what you want to hear. But could make them offer good on it anyways.

So sorry for you. Perhaps it can be salvaged and you can get something for the property the house is on.

It is sad that it's in such rough shape. But I suspect it won't make a lot of difference to the developer that needs it to complete his/her plot. Afterall, they probably have grandiose plans to build new.
