A pub named after the famous poet and author of Paradise Lost as well as its sequel Paradise Found and Samson Agonistes. Milton, who went blind later in life, was an ardent Puritan and supporter of the Republican government of Oliver Cromwell in the 17th Century, hence his rather stern expression in the portrait used for the pub sign.
