Healthcare in America

Being on MyLot has taught me that a lot of people from countries outside of America have a distorted view of America. It's not their fault. They are being fed bad information. One area with plenty of bad information is the Healthcare issue. No one in America, not even those not here legally, is without access to healthcare. If you are sick or injured and you need care, you can just go to a hospital emergency room. Every one of the 50 states have laws stating that these people must be treated even if they can't pay for it. My adult daughter has bad asthma. Before she had healthcare through her job, she made 4 trips to the ER for severe attacks. She was treated just like anyone else. She never paid a dime (she had no money) but the bill was taken care of by Lutheran Services. More to come...

Yes, but not EVERYONE can get free healthcare like your daughter. Not everyone is as fortunate as your daughter who was able to get her bill paid for by Lutheran Services. Just because they are obligated to take care of us, it doesn't mean that they will take care of us as well as they could or should. Doctors also push pills etc on their patients because the Pharmaceutical Industry OWNS THEM.

Yes, they can. They have to be treated by law whether they can pay or not.

@garysibi Please re-read what I said, I wasn't arguing over whether they'd take care of us or not, I was simply stating that their level of care may not be the standards we deserve.

@ScribbledAdNauseum "May not be" is a lousy argument. Do you have hard evidence that those without insurance are receiving substandard care? If so, please contact your local news media so they can let everyone know and put pressure on that institution.

Good to hear about your daughter. I worked in the medical field many years. You are right. Anyone can get healthcare regardless of insurance.

and people with chronic and serious health conditions can die if they don't have ACTUAL health insurance. Be honest.

@garysibi what are you even talking about? I don't have an agent.

@NJChicaa You said that you can die without health insurance. Insurance is generally purchased from an insurance agent. Do you understand now?

So it's your insurance agent who cures you. Gee, and all this time I thought it was the doctors and nurses. Sorry about the sarcasm but I think it deserved it.
