An ordinary photo? Not quite

This looks like a very ordinary photo to be blown up to huge size and displayed as a central feature of the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. What can you see? A dusty road, some houses in the distance, three dogs in the foreground. However, the title makes all the difference. This is "The Road to Mvezo - Nelson Mandela's Birthplace". The price tag was £18,000 - three prints were available for sale.

Really? It’s hard to believe how an ordinary picture like this is so expensive, all because of nelson mandela.

I would have thought that a trip to South Africa would be more appropriate!

There was a companion photo of Mandela's teenage home, also at £18,000.

Well, it is what the Picture is about and in this case Nelson Mandela's birthplace, that makes a lot of difference. The actual picture in this case is not so significant.

Now that the exhibition is over, it is almost certain that somebody already has.
