The Woodpecker That Could

It seems to me that it is always the same little woodpecker. I look out the window and there he is climbing to the top of the wooden pole that holds up the cables. He gets to the top and goes peck, peck, peck. When he has enough he flies away only to return sometime later. I have no idea why he doesn’t just fly right to the top but he flies about midway and then slowly makes his way up to the very top and does his thing. When I am busy online and I hear him I always have to smile when that peck, peck, begins to sound. The photo is not too good but the best I could do. Take my word for it that little lump up there is the black woodpecker. Do you have birds you see every day?

There used to be a bird that would start to sing right before daybreak. He'd sit in my tree for at least 2 hours then fly off. He hasn't shown up this year though.

There is a buzzard that starts his day (or her day) landing on the edge of our deck. I think he or she does it to get a reaction from the dogs!
