Mystery of the Night

I was snoozing along around 5 am. I had a fan going and a rain sound video playing on youtube. I suddenly realized that there was a loud humming noise coming from my office space.
I got up and ran down there. Half asleep, I could not figure out what was happening. The noise came from a shop vac that I was using that day.
There is no one else in my house. I was sleeping. How did that thing turn on? We have neighbors feet away. I am sure they will launch complaints. I hope they still let me live here.
I don't know how long it was on or how it turned on in the first place. I shut the electric off to that plug so it won't happen again. It makes a horrible noise.
What do you think happened here? It is the mystery of the night to me.

if things happened not naturally then i don't think they have any problem. here at my place if you make any noise at any time no punishment and no one can object on it unless it daily or doing for disturbing others.

@akalinus that is good that you not want to disturb them but something not under our control and they have problem if they are good neighbour.

@birjudanak Once, they rapped on the outside wall when I played youtube too loud. It really is not fun living so close together. But they fight and the cops come. I heard a gunshot once. I think there should be a lot more space between units.

@Mavic123456 Absolutely sure. I had to get up and come down here. It was a horrible racket in the middle of the night. I am so upset and now worried about what else could happen. A lot of things seem to be coming against me lately.

@Shivram59 I heard it for sure, very loud. I had to go downstairs and turn it off. Then I turned the electric off on the power strip so it could not restart.

@akalinus I think,they did not hear any such sounds simply because there was no sound.It might be a fear in your mind that .made you feel you heard a humming sound.
