There it is.
Welcome to Maine.
And with that, I’ve been to every state east of the Mississippi River.
Maine is my 39th state visited. The eleven I haven’t made it to yet are all west (Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, North and South Dakota, Utah, and Nevada).
Next year I hope to go west, middle-aged hillbilly. But for now, I’m resting at my hotel in Massachusetts, thanking God for the beauty I’ve seen along the way thus far....and that I finally made it to Maine.

I've heard that Maine is mostly a beautifully wooded state, sorta like Vermont.

I need to return to Vermont. I was there in February 1989, and it was just white.

@kobesbuddy — I’ve been to Michigan when it wasn’t white, and it’s quite gorgeous.

I've lived most of my life in Maine.
Where in Maine did you go, Four Walls? Did you go beyond Kittery (the southernmost town in Maine)?

Kennebunkport. I want to come back when I have more time (I have to be home late next week because my brother’s having knee replacement surgery). I didn’t go far, but everything I did see was stunning.
And I loved the “watch for moose on the interstate” signs.

You know, it’s funny that you see old mobile homes everywhere you go. It did make me feel better.

@JohnRoberts — possum chowdah is an acceptable substitute.

@FourWalls But don't you miss possum stew because all they serve there is clam chowdah and lobster?

Considerably cooler than I’ve been used to in Kentucky most of the summer! It was in the low 70s. And GORGEOUS. When you’re paying attention to the scenery you can see the difference in the color of the grass or trees in different areas. I know it has to be out of this world for beauty in the fall!

@Spontaneo — there are mountains, but given that I hadn’t seen the Atlantic Ocean since 2008 I headed for the shore!

8 years ago there was a crisis in Fairbanks Alaska. My boss said who will go. I said I will.
I stepped off the tarmac and spent 4 days in my 50th state. I've also hit two of the three remaining US territories (i have no been to Guam).

@DocAndersen — I think of it as the punishment Dickerson got at the end of Good Morning Vietnam.

Good for you @FourWalls
We have friends getting ready to move to Maine (a work thing). We look forward to visiting them there in the spring.
We have no plans to head for Alaska, but have been to most.
